A cult while generally found in religious groups, can also be political, racial or it can be anything really.
One of its unique characteristics would have to be a totalitarian control by a single charismatic, usually self-appointed leader with complete authority, one who is never to be questioned.
Many cults advocate completely being honest only within their group but being totally secretive from anybody outside of the group.
And the cult usually do this by often living together in one secluded area or entirely cut them selves off from any outside contact.
And lastly any new recruit from the outside are usually ordered to be silent about being in their group especially to their own families, well until they're in as well.

A cult is a gernerally small group of people whose religion believes and practices are considered outside the mainstream. However, there had been so called "cults" in history that had large numbers of followers. I would say the status of a religion as a "cult" is always changing as the society around it evolves and what is considered "mainstream" changes.

lesbi-friends, funny. Jehovah's Witnesses are the only Christians that actually adhere to Christ's teachings and understand the Holy Bible in it's entirety to be the inspired word of God, just because you don't like the teachings because they conflict with your lifestyle, you believe you have a right to lie about them, possibly keeping other honesthearted people from finding the truth. May God have mercy on your soul. A cult is a group that in most cases, isolate themselves from the outside world, not letting in strangers or letting their people out, many times arming themselves with weapons as in the Waco Texas case or with Jim Jones. Cults also follow a person. Jehovah's Witnesses invite any and all to come into our meetings, we conduct home Bible Studies with all who wish too, as stated earlier, Christ is our leader and we adhere to his teachings, and we have dedicated our lives to doing Jehovah God's will.
