Don't misunderstand me, I have a year old Beagle and she have received obedience training, she sits, lays down and stay properly... but she also jump on my guests, jumps on my sofa, digs and destroy all living and non-living object near her. I love her and my intention is not to punish her but to correct misbehaviors. Believe me I have read a lot about canine behavior and training, I have tried many methods to correct these misbehaviors but nothing seems to get through her, that is why I think about getting a shock collar, I don’t intent to electrocute her, I just want to find a channel for her to focus and understand a command

The best ones are made by Tritronics and Dogtra. I use the Dogtra 1200 and it is wonderful. I have used electric collars for over 20 years and I would not train many dogs without them. Less stress on the dog, better communication between dog and handler.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMTsP

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I agree with Greekman for the most part. What kind of a dog do you have? If you have a small dog it almost seems like overkill. If you have a medium to large dog it's a good idea but only if you are trained to use it correctly. Try getting one, Dogtra for instance, that has a buzzer with no shock. If you press that button it sort of reminds them that you are in control and they should come to you immediately. It's good if they are heading for the street, another dog, or just doing something you don't agree with. It does keep stress off you and the dog. A lot of people will disagree with the use of them, in a perfect world with a perfectly trained dog they wouldn't be necessary, but in my world they work well. The really important thing is to learn to use it correctly.

What kind of dog is this that you need to go to this extreme? We have had to do this with our last rescue who was a 10 month old Rottweiller/shepherd mix who was running loose in the mountains with a pack and it was the only way to get through her head. We only had to shock her twice and now we only have to tone her and she comes running. It was a last resort because every other dog we have has come to us as a puppy. It was the last last thing we wanted to do. It was not something we wanted to do, and it should be a last resort. We have a Petsafe Training System Comfort Fit collar for large dogs. I wouldn't ever use one on a small dog...they give out quite a shock for a small dog. We touched it and tried it ourselves to see how it worked and got our attention. I would crate train your dog. We have the large dog crate trained now and the collar is only on and we only have to tone it when it is outside and if it is playing rough with one of our other dogs.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/p7n73

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Before you try any electric collar on any dog, put one on yourself first and see how it feels. If you can't control a small dog without electrifying him into submission, then maybe you just shouldn't have a dog. How about reading a book on dog training? Weigh a little bit of effort versus animal cruelty.

Does the owner know what he is doing, does he understand the training process, and can he apply proper methodology to a specific situation?
Is the owner training the dog properly, does he have a plan for this specific misbehavior, and is he executing that plan appropriately and correctly?
Is the dog trainable? Is the dog in question stubborn, set in his ways, or unintelligent?

(I believe that all dogs are trainable. Dogs that seem stubborn, or unintelligent, have simply not been trained properly, consistently, or effectively.)

If you want an electric fence go for it, if you cant keep your dog in the yard. Those leash laws are horrible if your dog gets out, im constantly getting fined for it because my small dog always finds a way out when we let him out to do his business, and my apt. wont allow electric doggy fences.

Shock collars for other purposes are cruel!!! If you can't get him to learn without one, take him to obedience class, or give him to the SPCA and get a dog thats already been trained.

I have to agree with dark_reaction I am a groomer and I cant tell you how many dogs come in with burn marks and sores on there necks from Shock collars...

Here is how you try a shock collar put it on yourself...press the button and see if you still want one for your dog..

good luck.

I have the petsafe wireless fence system. It works great.

If your trying to train your dog to behave, negative feedback is not the way to go. For behavioral training you want to use positive feedback - look up info on clicker training.

PS - I've been zapped by the fence collar myself. It gets your attention.
