Please help. I'm 14 and I'm petrified of getting cancer, I always think about it. I think that I will and that I will die from it, I know many people survive but I can never see it in my head.

I am so scared. It's taking over my life. Please help.

When I first heard about cancer as I child I went through horrible anxiety. It made my life hell for several years because I was so scared. Eventually I had to get therapy and take medication for several years.

Recently, one of my worst fears came true, my mom died of cancer. Seeing it so close up I realized it is a terrible disease and it's a nightmare when someone you love is going through it. The reality is, cancer is common and affects a lot of people. You just have to deal with these things when they happen because there is no point in ruining the good years of your life with worry and stress.

If right now you and everyone you love is healthy, just be happy and enjoy it. I can't promise you that you'll never have to deal with disease in your life, but if you let anxiety take hold of you you're bringing a mental disease on yourself.

Try to remind yourself that right now everything is ok and if you need to deal with something difficult in the future, you'll be strong enough to handle it. If you think you need some professional help I would strongly recommend getting it now.

don't let it take over.
Listen, why worry when it's not happening?
Or better yet, please tell me this;
What will happen if (God forbid) you DID get cancer?
Would you just up and give up without a fight?
Would you face it HEAD ON and try and survive no matter what?
You had better decide, because if you sit there being 'petrified of getting cancer' (by the way, it isn't an infectious disease you can just catch), and let it rule your life, well, THAT IS NO LIFE.
I was 13 when I had my very first surgery, brain surgery, I was supposed to die, the doctors told my parents from the start that no one had EVER survived that was as sick as I was.
I survived.
I have survived 43 more brain surgeries, brain tumor treatment, a stroke, pain, more pain....
I doubt you can see that in your head, though, because you AREN'T sick, just scared of it
Don't be scared of something that isn't real.
Be scared when it IS, then fight like Hell.
And then eat some good chinese food, Won Ton Soup can cure anything.

Don't let it worry so much.

Stress can be an influencing factor in developing cancer!

Think about why you are so scared.......

Is it because you have lost someone close? Several people that are close? Or just fear of the unknown?

The worst part of cancer is the waiting for test results .... the unknown!

Once you start on the treatment cycle, although the side effects can be pretty nasty, you know that they are helping you to get better.

Many of us survive cancer, and the more people you know who have fought and survived, the less scary it gets!

Maybe try going along to an event for cancer fund raising, and meet some survivors, it may help you cope better.

Cancer is just a disease, a pretty nasty one, but it can be beaten and you get better .......... I would prefer to get cancer again than something like diabetes or arthritis that you have for the rest of your life!

Honey, it's ok, because it's a scary thing, and like I said to a previous user, it's okay to be scared. Learn about it on sites like www.cancer.org, they have alot of information about it, the more you know - the more you'll know how to at least try to prevent it, ways to eat natural, and not smoke, and excercise, all of that.
Please don't let this consume you though, it's a bad thing - but if you face what scares you and learn what it's about, I think it'll make it better, ok?

I look at it as something I can't realy avoid. You can try to prevent certain types, but just try to stay healhty and go to the doctor regularly.

see a doctor and he/she will ask you about what you eat and any diseases in your family and any symptoms (if any) and your concerns and mental process to determine if you're at risk or whatever. i cant imagine why you would think this being so young
