Let me first say that Im Christian.I just don't get it, how some Christians really do get offended b/c somone opposes our beliefs?I know that some of the people who persecute us will say it's b/c of fear. But"God did not give us a sprirt of fear, but of power and love and self-control"So thats obviously not true.Shouldn't persecution provoke us to live life at a higher level,to better Glorify God instead of getting offended and throwing back at them ugly words?Persecutin ought to strenghten our decision to follow Christ, not weaken it. So when they make fun and persecute us,they are only strengthening our faith and giving us more strength to endure. In the end our endurance will be a vital link to other's Salvation."When people insult you b/c you follow Christ, you are blessed,b/c the Glorious Spirit, the spirit of God is with you"1Peter4:14 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven"Matt5:10.

Perservering in our faith against popular opinion sends a strong message to those who oppose us.

Shouldn't we be happy to be made fun of?

Getting offended and being ugly back to them isn't going to draw them closer to God, only push them away.. Shouldn't we welcome persecution w/ open arms knowing it is only giving us strenght?

danaughtycanucker----that is VERY general judgement..Don't you think?! Well, it definately doesn't say much good about you. But it's your opinion. (Might be an ignorant one) But you still have a right to your own opinion.

Megan- yes!!! thank you so much for understanding me. I am definately not saying we should not defend our faith. But rather not get offended and do it out of offense. We should do it out of love.

It is because so many of us are focused on ourselves instead of on the Lord, so if we are opposed we take it personally instead of for what it is: A person who is in a desperate condition, and doesn't even know it. Instead of offense, what we should feel is compassion.
What's worse is that offense drives them away. Compassion would draw them closer.

That would depend on the individual. Most true followers know that persecution is just one of the things that we would endure in this system of things as we voluntarily took of the torture stake to be "footstep followers" of the Christ. Matthew 27:40. Not once did Jesus promise smooth sailing in preaching and teaching about God's Kingdom, which was his primary message to mankind.
Remember at John 15:20, where Jesus said "if they persecuted me, they will persecute you also" Read also Matthew 23:34 and Romans 12:14
At Acts 5:41, we read the account where the apostles were beaten for speaking about Jesus and his teachings...but they responded by saying that they counted themselves worthy to be dishonored in behalf of his name.
We should feel the same way, that does not make us weak, for we are strong in purpose and that is the doing of God's will. Seasoned Christians know that ugly comments, doors being slammed in our faces is not a personal affront....we know that these people are closing doors and disrepecting the MOST HIGH, JEHOVAH GOD and His son Jesus Christ...therefore, even if we felt anger [and we shouldn't} we would NEVER return in like manner.
Peace.

people of All religions get offended when someone opposes their beliefs, but not everyone in a particular faith.
I think most people accept that we are individuals and are entitled to our opinions (and that's all they are.... Opinions). Only the extreme radicals and those of a really sensitive nature get on their high horses when people oppose their beliefs.
Personally I do not get offended when people oppose my beliefs. Its their right to a different view and as long as they leave it as an opinion then thats fine.
Those who go around burning flags, threatening terrorism etc because someone has made a comment about their religion that does agree with their thinking are completey off their heads.
I am a Christian, and get ragged on all the time by people who are either of no religious belief or different religious beliefs. I just let it pass. Rising to their bait makes as bigger loser as they are.
In the end we will all be judged by our creator. It's not for me to take action against those who differ from me.

Strong words, we all needed to hear.
Thank you.
Generally, I don't get offended. There really is no reason to...especially not in an internet forum.
I have to admit, when I first "discovered" internet chat, I was quite surprised to find out how much real animosity there is against Christianity...even in the United States! And here, I thought we were the "good guys", LOL!!
But, I got over the initial shock pretty quick.
These days, I think I'm actually MORE offended by "Christians"...

God Bless you! Thank you for that,I was taught to turn the other cheek, although sometimes it is hard.I was jumped before, just for being a christian.I was hurt,I was slapped, punched, kicked, and then they attempted to rape me,saying "if I wasent a virgin I couldent be a nun".I was very devestated by that experience, but iI have learned to live with it,and forgive those who do me wrong.

well, first of all, ur right. we shouldn't b that offended, but look around u. others get just as offended as we do. we should, instead of hating others that make fun of us, we should protect our belief and our Lord. God did give us free will and everything, but he gave us fear, of offending him. "Blessed are those who are persecuted and made fun of, all because of me" "we know that in all things, God works for those who love him, those he has called according to his purpose" romans 8:28

Because look at them. They are WEAK in every sense of the word. They can't take responsibility for their own lives. They can't think on their own. They rely on a crutch (religion and the bible) ti go about their miserable existence. In other words they are pansy s that cannot take anything.Edited to add after the above remark: Your calling me ignorant? You believe in fairy tales, and magical all knowing invisible beings, and you have the balls to call me ignorant? Seems to me you are the arrogant one judging me (as per your m.o)and living your adult life in la-la land.
