Cause they are either Stupid, or they just plain don't care.. Can't put the dog in the front of the truck with them, cause he might chew their fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view.. And Ma back at the trailer park don't want no dang dawg hair on her clothes when she heads off to town for beer!
Edit : If it's such a great idea to let the dog ride in the back... Forget jumping out, let's say he is secure back there.. What happens in the event of an accident?? A roll over?? Where does the dog end up then?? It's not safe, who cares if at least someone is doing something with the dog.. Are you saying that the dog is better off risking his life to be with people?? That's just stupid..

I personally don't think putting a dog in the bed of the truck is a safe practice. Does your truck have the small side seats in the cab? I think with the dog park only 20 minutes away both pooches would be okay inside the cab. I would worry about the dog become too excited and putting his front feet on the side of the bed ans possibly falling out. If you use some thing to tie the dog short and it jumps out there is the danger of him being choked. A DOG LOVER Rose

I completely agree with you. I think some people dont put their dog in the front because it gets in the way of the pedals and rips the seat cushions, but I would never put my dog in the back of a truck. Its just a completely stupid idea, if you care about your dog why would you leave the chance of them jumping out and getting hit?

People who put their dogs in the back of a pick up are taking a chance that their dogs will never jump out unless asked to. It's so easy to make a harness for the dog, then put two leads and attach them to the harness and attach one to the left side of the bed and one to the right side of the bed. Make it so that your dog can move around a bit but not enough to be able to jump out of the truck. It also doesn't take much of an imagination to come up with some sort of shelter to allow the dog to get out of the weather (heat, rain) while it is traveling with you. It isn't irresponsible to put your dog in the bed of a pick up, but it is if you don't use a restraint. NEVER ATTACH THE RESTRAINTS TO A COLLAR, THE DOG COULD HANG HIMSELF. A HARNESS AND TWO RESTRAINTS ARE SO EASY.

It is not a good idea at all. When I was a kid my dad put our dog in the back of his truck to take her to the river 3 blocks away and he tied her there thinking she wouldn't jump out. Well she did and he hit her. She had to have her tail removed and broke her back leg. Luckily she fully recovered and lived to 16. So to everyone who does this learn from my dad's mistake, Even the most trained dog can jump out of the truck if it sees a rabbit or something catches his eye!!!

I agree. I want to smack the people who do that. It's like putting a kid in the back. If nobody is there to supervise them, who knows what they'll do?
I've seen a dog carcass on the freeway more than once and it makes me cringe, to say the least. Because it could have been so easily avoided.

My dog goes out to the country and runs around the farm occasionally he goes for a swim in the swamp. There is not running water out there because the land we own is just for storage etc. So when he gets nasty like that he rides home in the back of the pickup. But there is a topper on the pickup and screens over the windows we open for him. He seems to like it back there because he has more room to look out the windows. I would never just leave a dog in an open pickup tho.

Because they are oblivious to the dangers or think "It won't happen to my dog." I also take issue with people that let their dog hang it's head out the window. Ever see those dings rocks make when they fly up and hit a windshield? It's worse when it happens to a dog...

not all dogs will jump out some tie their dogs in and some don't want to mess up their car ...i actuallyy don't think it's bad because atleast their taking their dog somewhere and if the dog's enjoying it they should be fine and im sure the dog is enjoying it because they love sticking their heads outside of windows so what could better than putting them in trucks

I could see where you're coming from if it was winter, but honestly, when its warm out why not let a dog ride in the back of a truck? Most dogs love it! I've NEVER heard of a dog jumping out.
