So you were Catholic, Roman I presume. Made me crazy for a long time too. The question I see here is Does the church need to be rich to save my soul? My church is invisible, it has no doors but if you have ever been in it you remember it forever. It is bought from blood, sweat and tears. The closest I have ever been to it in this layer of beingness is outside the Baha'i Temple in North Shore, ILL. If I am ever blessed with largess I hope I will remember to give tithe to good works. Money is a tool, nothing more, nothing less and if we remember not worship it or villify it we can do good with it.

St Francis of Assisi put a good light on this subject. He lived a very poor life but was rich in soul.
Now the church as 1 1/2 billion people need places of worship. Buildings have to be maintainned. Any pastor who has sense in protestantism knows this as well.
The Vatican gives away more food, medical supplies, than the United States government.
What you see as Rich is a relative term.

I only see one question in the entire posting "Does the church have to be rich in order to save my soul?". So I will answer it....No. If that was the only mission of the church, it would need little money.
But the church is also called to aid the poor, feed the hungry, cloth the naked, educate the unlearned, comfort and heal the sick, visit those in prison, etc. That takes money.
It runs, schools, hospitals, orphanages, and more all across the world. That takes money.
Whether you like it or not, the Christian church is the largest supplier of "charity" in the world. Extending even the governments of the world. Within them, millions would die every day. That takes money.
To run such charities, unfortunately, takes administrators, buildings, phones, lights, utilities, employees, cars, and more. That takes money.
So the church does need money to be able to fulfill all of the missions that God has given to it.

It is because we have a tendency to put the riches ahead of God- The more we have the less we tend to want to help our fellow man. The "Heavenly Riches" that the Bible speaks of is in the heart. Go pick up the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" A guy that had very little in $$$ but was rich in Love-- I don't care how much money you have-- it doesn't buy happiness- God wants us to love Him & one another... Gold & Silver are pretty to look at--- but very cold to the touch..........nothing warms my heart like knowing I am genuinely cared about for who I am ---not for what I have .

You know the devil wants us to believe that the riches of this world is only for the sinner and we as Borne Again Christians should be poor .
See what the book of Malachi says about being riches,
“. . . prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not he room enough to receive it” (Mal. 3:10).
If God blesses you with wealth then it is in order to be a blessing to others, not just for youself.
Take care

The church building does not need to be rich to save you. Only you can save you. You have to want something before it happens. You have to work out your own salvation. YOU. in what ever you believe you are the one to make decisions for yourself.
In the bible it says your body is the Temple of God. That means you house your own religion. Religion means practice.

Jesus creatd the Church and chose her first leaders---the twelve Apostles.
Jesus' Church continues today. The faults and weaknesses one observes are nothing more than the weaknesses of the men who administer the Church. We are all wounded and so are the Bishops and priests. Despite this human weakness, the Holy Spirit continues to operate and bless through the Church.

the money you give when you tithe is to further the kingdom of God and to help people reach others who are lost. Like for christians you are supposed to spread the Gospel. So that's what you do with the money.
