i suffer from pmdd..i wont take the anti depressent since i know these things are going to interfere with my life. i wanted to know if anyone knows any homemade remedy for this. i do inversion and started to excercise and i find them really helpful. in addition to this i want to know if there is anything i can do to reduce the symptom.
i am not willing to give myself up to medication. my body needs to produce a balance by itself. i dont want a lazy body.
my symptoms are :
depression, anger, hatred, huge amount of energy that i feel i can kill a whole herd..and list goes on and believe it or not all the negativity leaves me as soon as the first drop of blood comes out...is nt that amazing.
i hope no one else ever gets to suffer like me.

the symptoms start about 2 weeks before periods and stops within 2 days of period start. i went to a therapist months back and was diagonised as severe pms or pmdd. she asked me to go on anti depressent since i am not willing to take any of them now i take calcium and multivitamins. still its very bad those days...

i ve been suffering from this from the time i started mensturating...ie 14 to 30 now. and its now i realised the symptoms and went to a doc..imagine there are many out there like me.

If you only experience it during your actual period, it may not necessarily be PMDD, but severe PMS. PMDD typically occurs 1-2 weeks before your period starts, generally with ovulation. Symptoms should be cleared up by day 2 or 3 of your actual period. Also, other symptoms of PMDD are insomnia, depression, strong feelings of rejection, feelings of being at your wits end, and feelings of 'going insane'. All women are different, but it sounds more like you have severe PMS, which occurs in response to the hormones that release the blood-- NOT the hormones that release the egg during ovulation, which is what causes PMDD.

Whatever the case, severe PMS and PMDD (though different) are both hard to live with and are treated quite similarly. On your own, try yoga, working out a lot right before your period (or during it, if cramps don't make this impossible), and herbal tea. Practice calming techniques such as relaxing visualizations and calming breathing. Try Valerian, Kava, and skull cap to see if they help.

Also, give hormonal birth control some thought. I was very hesitant to go on birth control because I didn't want to harm my body's balance either, but I've found that going on it has simply knocked my body back into balance. PMDD is caused by your body's hormones being OUT of balance.

I don't recommend anti-depressants unless there's a medical reason that stops you from taking birth control, because that's simply treating the symptoms. I've found that being on birth control, even for just a year or two while I'm young, has made it so that even going six months or so without it, I'm still 'in balance'.

I recommend talking to your doctor about hormonal birth control (not the mini-pill). If one doesn't work, experiment. See if you can get a prescription for another type. And.don't knock it until you've given it at least 3 months-- it took six months of being on the pill consistently before I felt completely back to myself (but I feel great now!)

It sounds like you might have PMDD and maybe some depression - either way - your OBGYN can prescribe some meds that will help with the PMDD. I took Sarafem for a while and I did really well. Good luck

Have you seen a therapist? Sometimes they can help you with non-medicinal ways.
