Living in Arizona, you wouldn't even want to THINK of taking a jog around the block in the summer. With temperatures reaching in the double digits, it's far too dangerous to walk in that kind of weather.

I want a treadmill. Nothing fancy, I just need a simple but durable treadmill that has a few features like adjusting the speed, showing calories burned, nothing too hard to understand. I don't need any fancy heart monitors or traction, nothing like that. The simpler, the better! It will be for me and my dog.

Any reccomendations on what kind of treadmill I should buy? Could you reccomend some good companies, or companies to avoid buying from? Thanks!

I am a professional fitness cosultant. I sell fitness equipment. I would recommend Pacemaster. They have a great warranty, easy console and they are no maintenance treadmills. A lot of treadmills require regular lubrication and centering for the treadmill to work. Pacemaster is consistently rated a best buy on treadmilldoctor.com. Check out that website.
Stay away from Lamar and nordic trac. Ask about warranty, shock absorbtion and maintenance. American made treadmills tend to be of higher quality too. Precor and Pacemaster are both made in the United States.
If you visit the pacemaster website they can refer you to a local dealer.
ps- Life Fitness makes a great commercial treadmill, but their home model isn't as durable. Plus, Life Fitness is one of the most expensive brands out there.

pacemaster would suit you

Pacemaster ProElite is a high end machine which sports among many other features, a large deck which facilitates taller trainers to conveniently keep at their workouts. It can even sustain users who are heavily built upto 150 kgs. Even the motor in Pacemaster ProElite is of heavy duty. A 3 HP power can move the belt upto speeds of 12 miles per hour which is exceptional. An incline of 15 % helps in increasing the workout intensity. This treadmill provides the user with an option of 17 programs.

Sometimes the more complex the better for a treadmill. Mine has a little digital track that goes around and shows how many miles I 'tread'. Also, the tread is adjustable for angling, like walking or jogging up hill, which is far more strenuous than flat. Mine was $800 on sale from $1200.

The only brand I like is Life Fitness. Hopefully they have something with the features you like and in the price range you are comfortable with. When I looked for one I found a wide selection and they ranged from $1000-a little over $6000.
