In fact he does it to get attention. If we simply leave him he just continues to scratch non stop.

Try a pop can with about 5 pennies in it. Tape the top. Shake it when he's naughty. Worked for us.

Good, I failed to read your paragraph given that I was once lazy, but i will help you. Inform them that A pet teaches responsibility. And it gives you anything to appear ahead to. Instead of sitting around, that you could take the dog for a stroll, therefor it will get exercise and so do you! Plus their relatively lovable. I giving freely a 2 year ancient Sheltie combine. He loves walks and he is at no cost. He stopped peeing within the condominium but if he's in a new position he might freak out. He is nonetheless very calm, however he find it irresistible while you come dwelling, he'll soar round and be all excited.

It's a`little LESS than so,`called cruel punishment !?! But find a way to tie sort of a sock or something around all the paws !! & ONLY take them off when you take it out for walks !!. Maaybe it'll notice something !?! & give up that practice !?! Or when it's done or other things you do'nt like are done speak to it in a way that you would a bad child !! do this all while walking it to a basement, closet, fence & look mad when doing so !! It will learn that's a BaD thing they've done

You could line your walls with astroturf. It is a thought.

Maybe you could force him to eat lemon, put him in time out (his cage) or spray him with water every time he does it?

Also, it's possible that simply not paying attention to his scratching will get him to stop. If he can't get your attention that way, he will try something else. I watched (out of the corner of my eye) a young cat destroy its water bowl, litter, and food dish one day when she was unhappy because play time was over. I pretended not to see it AT ALL. She didn't do it again.

The minute he starts, you will have to divert his attention to something else. This sounds like a compulsive habit that you will have to work at to break. Don't yell or hit of course, just get him interested in something fun but harmless, like playing with a safe toy. If he can find another outlet, like the toy he will stop or minimize the scratching.

Swat him on the but, once, not too hard, but make it loud by cupping your hand a bit. It isn't supposed to hurt them, but the noise scares them. You have to be persistant though, or it won't work. Every time he does that, swat him and then ignore him. wait a few minutes and if he does it again, swat him. Or you could just ignore him whenever he does that and he will figure it out. Or you could just put him outside when he does that. But all of these have to be done immediatly after the fact or it will take no affect.

Our puppy at times does the same. We have a pop can with coins in it all taped shut. When we catch her doing something that is not good we shake the can as an emphasis that we are not pleased.
The noise registers strongly with the dog. Now we just have to shake it gently to have the same effect.
Of course we have to ctach her doing it

Go get an indoor kennel and put the dog in it when he is angry like that. Maybe he needs a nice secure space for himself. It is much safer for the dog to be kenneled when your not home, too.

In my experience this kind of behavior is not associated with anger, but rather with fear. Your dog is afraid, possibly. You need to determine what it is in his environment which is causing this behavior and remove it. What is scaring your dog? What do you think he is "pissed off" about (that is not an emotion that dogs really show - they may be agressive, they may be frightened, but not usually angry).

When does he do this - when he is alone? or when you are home. Use a crate if you are not home!! A crate is NEVER to be used as a punishment. It is not like time out - it is a nice, cozy, secure "den" for him. His space! Which is calming to a dog - they are den animals.
