English Standard Version because it takes the best thought for though translation (NIV) and the best word for word translation (New American Standard) and combines it into a work that remains faithful to the original text yet easy to read and understand.

There are three translations that must head the list. The do because they combine proper English, solid though not always perfect translations and transliterations, and retain the majority of the essential doctrinal points which have been changed in more corrupt Bibles to hide many truths about God's message. These Bibles are not abridged, nor do they include the commentary of another man. They are derived from the best known versions of texts, and are not watered for political correctness, like the New Revised Standard Version.

1. The Revised Standard Version (not new - there is a big difference)
2. The English Standard Version
3. The New American Bible

The most corrupt Bible would have to be the King James version. It has changed more important doctrinal matters than any other Bible. Stay away at all cost if you want the truth.

eg - Investigate 1 Corinthians 13 Love vs Charity - Which definition is the true and correct one?

There are three divisions of Bible translations-a literal translation; a dynamic equivalent (uses a word that means the same as the original); and a paraphrase (read the original and write down what it meant). Examples of literal are the NAS (New American Standard) or ESV (English Standard); of the dynamic-KJV, NKJV, or NIV (New International Version); of the paraphrase-NLB (New Living Bible) or The Message.

The best Bible to get would be a parallel Bible. They have 3 to 4 versions side by side, so you are sure to get the meaning. My favorite is from Zondervan and is called "Today's Parallel Bible." It has the NIV, NAS, KJV, and NLT. You get all 3 in one! (I imagine you would have to search online to see if it comes in French.)

And for a tip. Read the literal translation first, then dynamic, then the paraphrase. God Bless!

I belive the King Jmaes version is the most correctly translated. It doesn't modernize anything but tells it just like it was meant to be old even if a lot of it doesn't make sense until you figure out the context in which some of the stories are being told.

I like the King James because I was raised with it. A more modern translation is the NIV. Go to the Christian book store near you and read a passage in a few different versions to see which you like. The best version is the one that speaks to you!

If you are Catholic it is the Catholic Bible. If you are not Catholic it is still the Catholic Bible. The Catholic Church compiled the books off the Bible and is the 'Keeper of the Bible' by tradition. All other bibles are extractions or rewrites of the Catholic Bible. Even the new translations by other churches are made from the original Catholic bible. It is in every language in every country. If you know of a Catholic church where French is spoken they should either have one or they can get one for you. If the church doesn't speak French they can still get one for you.

King James had the bible written to his specifications.
New International Version is the one I prefer. But the best way to read the Bible is of course to learn ancient Greek or Hebrew!

I like King James. But if you want the modern version with easy to understand words then get the New American Standard.

The Message Bible is excellent for modern day lanquage. Also a very good translation is the Ampliphied Bible because it gives great reference scriptures and it's also easy to understand. Go to the Biblegateway and you'll be able to view many translations.
