The first few days would really be painful. Some would be fine after three days but the pain could be longer even up to 10 days in some cases. So bad that you are suffering from pain with an ineffective painkiller. You should let your doctor know to do find a remedy for your pain relief. Anyway, I thought it would be helpful for you to read on things you have to know and read some of personal experiences on such operation, so please visit these links:

That is normal. Everyone's pain tolerance is different. Every surgery is different also. For some of my knee surgeries I didn't need any pain medications and for others I needed very strong medication (an IV pump to go home with). Everyday will get a little bit better for you. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Yes..afraid so...it WILL get better...just not right away...
I just endured a knee replacement...my FIFTH surgery on the same knee....
Sometimes, it takes that long for all that numbing stuff they put into your leg to completely wear off...
A couple of words of advice:
Keep it iced...ice is now your very best friend
Anti-Inflammatories..your second best friend...take them at REGULAR intervals...do not wait for pain
Pain Pills- your third and closest friend right now..take these also at regular intervals, do NOT wait 'til you start hurting, staying AHEAD of the pain is the way to go..once you START hurting, it's hard to get it under control...
It's gonna hurt for a while longer...if you notice any "new" symptoms, call your Dr immediately..better safe-than-sorry..
I've been through it all, babe...hang in there...it WILL get better!
