He was a man of both wisdom and knowledge. He had a tru understanding of what his position was supposed to be and did everything he could within that framework, including making efforts to correct (or at least asknowledge) some of the things that over the centuries the church had done that were NOT things that a truly Christian man would do or allow. As popes go, he was probably one of the best and certainly the most respected by Catholics as well as other Christians and even many NON-Christians like myslef. He was a good pope, but more inportantly...he was a good man.

Because I am not a Catholic (I'm a Protestant Christian), I don't agree with some of the teachings of the Catholic Church. I can think that the pope was a very good man, but beyond that, I believe he was just a man - no better in God's eyes than you or me. I believe that what you are describing about the Pope is what you should be describing about God. You can tell God anything and not feel ashamed. God desires to be your Friend and while God uses people such as the Pope and others to bring people closer to Him, the focus should be on God - not the Pope or any other human.
I will say that I can appreciate that someone your age has such a desire to get close to God and has admiration and respect for a spiritual leader who obviously had a very positive impact on your life. That says a lot about the good person you likely are.

I think he was a great man. I believe he loved God with all his heart and that he loved people. People loved him back.
I think he was a good Pope...but not the greatest. I feel that in his effort to reach out to others (which is a good thing) he leaned a little too far sometimes. When you lean to far you are in danger of tipping the boat...even if your intentions are good...which I believe his were.
He helped renew many people's faith and he also brought Catholicism to the forefront on many issues. These are definitely good things.
But being popular and well-liked are not necessary attributes of a great Pope.
I think Benedict is a great Pope so far. He is more focused on leading the Catholic Church, which really is his main responsibility. He was the "defender of the faith" before he was Pope and continues to practice that as Pope. Standing up for what is right is not always easy...Benedict does this no matter what the fallout. Sometimes that is necessary and can even foster dialog between the faiths.

John Paul II was a holy man of God but possessed, like all of us, serious faults.
One of his greatest mistakes was these words: the modern "Jews are our elder brothers in the faith". This statement is a complete falsehood and has created evil consequences. The first evil consequence is the horrible false hope that this statement gives the lost and faithless Jews of our generation. It gives the false hope to modern Jews that they can be saved without Jesus as their Lord. The second evil consequence is the false understanding it gives the Christian people about modern anti-Christ Judaism. Modern Judaism is clearly and hatefully opposed to Jesus as Messiah. They ARE NOT OUR elder brothers in the Faith (Christian Faith). They do not have the faith of Abraham. (Romans 2;8 and Galatians 3.28.) May the Lord have mercy on the Pope John Paul II for these horrible false words.)

Pope John Paul the Great lead 1 1/2Billion Catholics. He completed and promulgated the 1984 Code of Canon Law. He reviewed and set in motion the Catechism of the Catholic Church. He wrote plays, was a biblical scholar, extremely loving and intelligent.
4,000,000 people came to the City of Rome for his funeral. Groups of people that hate each other came to his funeral in peace. 1,000,000,000 people watched his funeral Mass on TV or heard it on the radio.
His funeral Mass was the biggest single liturgical event in the 2000 years of the Catholic Church.
What can I say about John Paul II, especially after seeing him live, at Mass in 1987 - JOHN PAUL II WE STILL LOVE YOU!

He presided over the cover up of Priest Pedophilia which was the largest criminal cover up of a Sex scandal in the history of the world. For a while he was successful. He moved Priests when they were discovered to other parishes where they could find more victims and managed to hold off legal action by bribing potential witnesses. Finally like most cover ups it fell apart.

Well, as far as Catholic Popes went, he was probably the most progressive in terms of bringing unity among Christians, extending peace offerings to other religions, etc. Based on the recent actions of Benedict (I can never remember what his number is), I would say that Holy Mother Church found John Paul way TOO progressive, and they are now trying to bring things back around (to the dark ages, but still, back around).

Personally, I don't think he was that good a rapper, but that's just my opinion. Also, I am so majorally tight with the big G that I couldn't get any closer with the trinity becoming a quartet and then just think of all the bibles and stuff that would have to be rewritten.

I thought he was such a good Benevolent pope that I read
a biography about him. He was never condemning. I think
that's why the whole world mourned him like he did. Even as
a Buddhists I have a lot of respect for him.

I agree. I'm 42. For a very long time he's the only pope I really knew. Now we have B16, but I'm still just getting to know him.
JPII showed us all how to love everyone and yet remain true to our faith.
What in the WORLD is "Aussie" talking about? He never lied about his name. More rumormongering from the nay-sayers. How sad.
