I want to lose about 55 lbs. I realize that I need to change my diet and exercise habits. What are good exercises to do at home? (I have small kids and can't really get to a gym) I don't really like "salad vegetables" I know it would be a big help if I liked them... ugh lettuce just tastes terrible to me... Where can I find good recipes for dinners for a family of 4? I would like to lose about 2 lbs a week until I reach my goal. Any advice on diet or exercise or anything else related to weight loss would be helpful, Thanks!

Watch your calories. Go to the gym 4 days a week. Don't quit, you will see results. Results take time. I have been working out for 3 months and I'm just starting to see results. Do 15-20 min. cardio and 20 min. weight lifting. You need muscle to lose fat. Don't starve yourself. When you work out your body actually needs more food. Just keep an eye on what you're eating. Cut back on salt anywhere you can.

Do you have room in your house for a recumbent bike or treadmill? Regular exercise is THE best way to lose weight and keep it off. If you can't get to a gym, you need something at home. You'll want to work up to 45 min/day. for best results. Of course, you may have to start at 10 min/day but that beats nothing.
Diet wise it is best to concentrate on 'good' carbs, that is, those that don't spike blood sugar. Most veggies are OK as well as whole grain cereals and breads. Avoid baked potatoes, watermelon and fruit juices as these all cause a spike in glucose.
2 lbs/wk is a good goal. That's what Dr.s advise as healthy.
Good luck!

The best way to lose weight is doing exercise.
The best type of exercise for weight loss is something you ENJOY DOING and are likely to continue doing - not just while losing weight but also as you maintain weight in the long term.
Your initial fitness goal should be to do 30 minutes of exercise each day. Thereafter, gradually increase this (ideally) to about 60 minutes of exercise per day.
The best combination of exercise is a mixture of aerobic and weight/strength training (and stretching). Aerobic and weight/strength training exercises both assist weight loss but in different ways.
Check out http://fitness-secret.info , there are some great exercise for weight loss you can choose.

I have lost a total of 120 pounds so far.
I lost 105 pounds in my first 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.
It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.
Good LUCK!

When exercising be sure to mix cardio work outs and muscle building work outs (ie treadmill for 30 minutes, then do some crunches). Since its harder for you to get to the gym try running outside with your kids for the cardio, or do family walks at night. Some good meals to try would be ones where you use boneless skinless chickenbreats, grilled salmon. Since you don't really care to much for the salad vegetables do fruit salads. One of my favorites is a low fat vanilla yougurt mixed with a variety of fruits. Another helpful tip is to cut back on the pop, if you are a pop drinker, this alone will help you lose at least 10 pounds.

If you want a good one-stop resource for weight loss that gives you tips on what to eat, what to avoid, how much to eat, how often to eat, and also gives you recipes, diet plans, and workout routines, invest in a copy of "The Abs Diet" by David Zinczenko. He's one of the editors for Mens Health magazine, and the plan he came up with is a common-sense approach to eating and exercise that doesn't involve counting calories or exchanges, cutting out entire food groups, making exotic meals with hard-to-find ingredients, or completely giving up everything you love. The diet itself is 100% safe, it's based around food you can easily find and prepare, and best of all IT WORKS!!! You can find this book at any major bookstore, and it's hard to miss -- the cover is bright orange.
