Prior to Exodus god was unnamed. It wasn't until Moses went to the mountain that we learn of Yahweh. Some believe he was a volcano god. Some believe it was a volcano that the Israelites followed during exodus - cloud pillar duing the day and fire at night.
I'm going to refrain from giving my beliefs on this one. I am interested in what others have to say though.
What do you think?

Actually, YHWH means I AM - sort of.
More accurately it can mean "I am what I need to be."

Good question. Moses was of course a decendant of Levi, a son of Israel, grandson of Abraham. He married Zipporah, daughter of Jethro, high priest of Median. The Medianites were also descendants of Abraham from one of his last wives after Sarah died. Thus, Moses was not learning about some pagan religion but being taught by his father-in-law about his own roots in the Abrahamic covenant. Yahweh, or Jehovah as we know Him, was the same as the great I Am that was told to Moses from the burning bush. Moses asked who shall I say sent me and he was told to say that I Am sent him. That is why Jesus was accused of blasphemy when He called Himself I Am. The pharisees were incensed to think that anyone dared to call themselves I Am, the same person we came to know as Jehovah. What I have been told before is that the translation from the original into I Am or Yahweh is one and the same.
Bottom line, where did the name come from that we use today instead of the ubiquitous I Am, I don't know.

He told Moses to tell them I Am. After he came down from the Mount. He never told Moses his name was Yahweh on the mount. And there are a number of ways to spell His name. The Bible says the smoke and fire was God Im going with the Bible since its predictions have been coming true for over 2000 years. Peace out..............

In the original Hebrew text, the scriptrures began like this:
In the beginning, YAHWEH CREATED*** It has been proven by numerous scholars that the TRUE HOLY NAME OF YAHWEH was removed form the Bible over 6000 times, & replaced with the names of the pagan gods of the surrounding countries, much like the names your looking at above. However, YAHWEH STANDS ALONE AS THE ONLY SOURCE OF POWER IN THE UNIVERSE, & HE wasnt borrowed by any man, YAHWEH calls out men to do the work that HE has chosen for them to do! We OBEY, we LIVE!!!

The Midianites were the enemy of Israel. I don't thing that Moses borrowed anything from them. Moses spoke directly with God. I believe that II Tim 3:16 holds true. "Theopneustos" means "God breathed."

When Moses first met God, he was told that God's name was I Am. Yahweh is a Hebrew translation of I Am.

The Midianites were not monotheistic.
Moses followed all other Jews who came before him, especially Abraham, the first Jew; the one who introduced monotheism to the world.

I think you should do more research, and back up some of your speculation with actual evidence.
