No murder is this black and white, as random acts of violence are so rare. This means usually that murders happen for a reason, regardless of that reason being unjust. Take the case of a young man who was abused from the age of 6 to 16. He eventually snaps and plots to kill that person. He carried out the attack, and cut the body up. Should he get life without parole (a Whole Life Order here in UK)?

Or what about the raped woman seeking revenge? Life again? No, the courts at the moment try to look beyond the act to find out what caused it, and sentence accordingly.

Taking away that judicial discretion turns our courts into mechanical inhuman institutions, not worthy to sit in judgement on anyone.

Yes, it is absurd to give some one LIVE and in the same breath say " oh but you can get out in 15 years if you suck up to the authorities from now on" If a person has killed or tortured some one then that person should not get any leniency , the person who is dead will not be back in 15 years.

Those involved with "The Law" should not misuse the English language.
Thus Life should mean LIFE. After all, that's what it does mean.
