I think it's an 83, not sure though. It's a Mercedes-Benz. It's a 300 LE? It's a Diesel. The repairs needed would be a new muffler and replace the front windshield. The windshield isn't a top priority, and I'm iffy about the muffler. It has over 230,000 miles on it. The gentleman is selling it to me for $600. Is it worth it?

He's selling it because he lives on a boat, and he already has two other cars. Another Mercedes-Benz, and a Rav4. He needs to get rid of one of them.

Not sure on the 83's, but have work on MB before and the diesel engines last forever, but the down side is parts are hard to come by, expensive and tricky to put in. If you are willing to learn about fixing your car, it is great, I persnally would by it just to get the diesel engine, I would tell him to fix and have it inspected, then give him a 100 extra.

Sound like a good deal, but I would go for a test drive before answering that question. Mercedes-Benz are great cars, even the older ones, and this one is a Diesel which if it works, would save money on gas. If the windshield has a crack in it, it's a safety hazard as it may get bigger and crack while you're driving. The muffler will need to be replaced as many states do not like noise & pollution. You will be sure to attract the attention of a Policeman. Other than that, if the engine is sound (no oil leaks of any kind), then it's really not a bad deal, but check first. Usually, cars like this people want to keep so be wary of the reason for the sale.

I`ve owned several MB diesels over the years(and just sold an `83 240D a month ago), and I would say that, as long as it runs good, and isn`t too rusted out, $600 is a good deal. Mufflers are cheap, and a replacement windshield for that car isn`t too bad($$) Check the jackpoint holes, the trunk-floor and under each floormat to make sure it isn`t rusted-through(especially since this car spend time near the water). As long as the drivetrain is in good shape, you can`t go wrong for $600. The `83 240D I sold a month ago, was
completely rusted-through the back floor, had a
substantial amount of body rot, and busted A/C.
I got nearly $1,500 for it, as-is.

i would say no!!! dont be happy because u r getting a car for 600 bucks. think a little ahead as well and consider all the probable wrongs that might happen to the car in future due to its age. that car is reallllllllly old and is depreciated and will cost u alot to repair/change its parts.
y not save up ur money a little and go for a younger car. that way u get a nicer car and u also dont have to be in auto shop every day.

I sold mine with 300,000 miles on it. A diesel can reall hold up for a lot of miles. However, that many miles on the running gear, causes a lot of wear. Have a mechanic check it out for you. That's really the only way to make sure it's a good buy.

Imagine future repairs, Sir.

$600 is a drop in the bucket compared to what you're looking at, "A big hole in which to pour money".
