Have you heard of the proposed academic boycott of Israel's universities that is taking place in the UK through the University and College Union?
Do you think it is fair to condemn Israel's academics but make no mention of the genocide that is supported by the Sudanese government? Do you think it is fair to punish Israel's Universities and say nothing of the incitement to violence against Israel and Jews that takes place in Palestinian educational institutions? Do you think it is fair to sever ties with universities as a way to change a government's policies?
Please, don't be silent, tell the world you oppose the boycott!

Habbash, I posted the question in the higher education section, but I also wanted the "Israel" regulars to answer it.

It is strange that people here are saying the boycott is good because Israel's use of collective punishment is wrong.
Isn't the boycott also collective punishment and thus also wrong?
Do two wrongs suddenly make the world right?

No, of course it is not fair.
Is it fair that Israel has to deal with such animals surrounding it? No, it isn't.
Is it fair that there are only very few newspapers in the world that give the Mid East fair and balanced coverage, and therefore make the Israeli side look much worse then it is, and our enemies look much better?
No, it isn't fair.
Is it fair that so many Israeli Jews are so blinded by the imaginary idea of peace that they would rather kill and torture their own, instead of aiming at the enemy who attacks Jews EVERY DAY?
No it isn't fair.
Is it fair that today, in the 21st century, Jews are still being accused of the ritual killings?
No, of course not.
I guess my point is that academic boycott is not so bad when you compare it to the rest of this bullsh*t.
But you are most certainly 100% right.

If it will stop the segregation & humilation of all Palestinians at the hands Israel... then I support the Boycott.
Collective Punishment of all Palestinians breeds hatred and Extremism... it doesn't take a darn Rocket Scientist to figure this out.
All these years of check points, walls, & Segregation has blocked families from their families, from work, from proper medical treatment ect. All these things breeds hate... unless israel stops the Heavy handed tactics it uses against all Palestinians nothing will ever change there.
I do not see Israel as a country based on Democracy, not when basic human rights are violated every single day over there.

It's not a proposed boycott - it's already taking place. It began with the NUJ, the National Union of Journalists, but thank goodness they have now seen sense.
But the academic boycott remains. It's absurd. Israel is a democracy where all are free to worship as they see fit, and where men and women are equal - yet she is being boycotted. Meanwhile I don't hear cries of 'boycott' against Iran, where women are still stoned to death for adultery, nor against Saudi Arabia, where it's forbidden to read or even own any religious text other than the Koran.
The fact that this boycott originates in the UK is significant. Many British people feel confident condemning Israel even though they don't have the objective facts with regard to the history of Israel and the true nature of the Middle East conflict.

It is not fair to boycott Israeli Universities. The people who boycott anything to do with Israel are the losers because Israel has some of the smartest people in the world and the best technology.

I am angry at what Israel did to Lebanon last summer.
But I don't believe the boycott is a positive thing. There's no way we can ever move to any form of settlement if people boycott one another.

Israeli Universities are boycotted academically long time ago by most world Universities. Most Israeli Universities support the Israeli occupation of other people land.
