It hasn't really hurt me per se, but it has been a real disappointment. After many years of unanswered prayer and then afterwards logical analysis of religion, i have concluded that it's not the right thing for me. The world is as it is - there is no magical man in the clouds controlling my every move.

I suppose also that it has hurt my relationship with people a bit. I feel like my parents look down on me for my atheism, and it's always a huge sticking point in my relationships.

I hear you. I think this is a crossroads that many people pause at at least once in their life. In my opinion, one can never be certain of anything and given that the supernatural can neither be disproved or proven, it is no different although given this fact we might say it is improbable (but not 0). However, I know I don't believe in any god who would punish me for genuine doubts in the absence of knowledge. This is just unfair and if it were true, I would defy it anyhow on principle. If, however, a loving and fair god does exist and not believing in it would damn us to eternal suffering then it would definitely give us more to work on before we make the choice. So either way I'm not worried as long as I always keep my mind moral and open in my search for truth. Anyway I know it'll be a while before you feel totally at ease with your chosen path, whatever it may be, but I hope you can feel some comfort soon and I can assure you that you will be a far wiser person after this life experience than before (and you're already so wise so that's saying something! lol) so that whether you're a Christian or not, life will be far better. So it's worth the current anxiety but I still feel for you. It's not an enjoyable experience so look after yourself ok? All the best. :o)

Who really knows when it destroyed all the ancient knowledge?
There are 4,000 year old machines found that we only today have had the technology to reproduce. What technological advances have they destroyed? What knowledge existed for the betterment of mankind has religion destroyed? Religion is the suppressor of knowledge and the oppressor of men. History does not support the belief in a kindly and benevolent religion. They are all evil by design.

Most of what I read are deeds done by man and that includes some churches who are not following the path of Christ.

I agree with those that God has not let me down but man has a number of times.

Make no mistake for the believer-(I don't really know if God test non-believers) God will test your faith and you won't like it but if you can walk through the fire still believing in him he will bring you peace, love and joy.

Religion has not hurt me, it is my lifeline! People hurt you, rather its direct or a mistake. People have hurt me, religion has not.

First of all, FEAR. Fear of doing what I really wanted in my life. I though God wanted me to dedicate my life to him completely. I was afraid to follow my ambitions.

Second, not believing in my self. That I have the power and energy to make things happen. I always expected that God would take care of things and my life slowly became a disaster.

Now Im learning that I am responsible for my life and take full control of my life by relying on myself and the power within me. I understand my thoughts are powerful and create my future.

Before when I was negative I would pray to God and though he would make it better, now I get myself thinking positive and I instantly feel better so that I can move on in my life and build a better life now.

I have no FEAR and I believe in my self, I believe I have the power within me to create a great future for myself and those around me.

Great question. Religion has hurt so many people in so many ways. Personally, it has divided my family in an irreparable way. I consider my family acquaintances because our ideology is so estranged.

Well, one religion hurt me by teaching me lies made up by men, and then when I left, every member was expected to treat me as if I was dead (complete shunning).

It made me think there was no such thing as God, because I thought that Catholicism was what God was, But then I realize God just is, and you don't need religion's wacky rules to love God
