Two backyards away from mine, there used to be a nest in one of the trees. We noticed this bird nose diving our dogs for over a month now and called the conservation office to inquire. They told us that as soon as the fledgings were able to fly and take care of themselves, the bird would stop its aggressive behavior. Yesterday we saw it attack yet another crow and this time it repeatedly attacked it on a fence in front of my house, no where near the nest. We're not sure if the crow was fatally wounded or not. This bird is no bigger than a blue jay, but all gray except for white markings at the edge of the wings almost scalloped-like. He has actually pecked at my black lab's tail and made contact. And he has done the same thing with the smaller dogs in the neighborhood. He has attacked squirrels and the list keeps going on. We now have to sit with a water hose when we're in the backyard to prevent him from attacking our 2 rather large dogs. Concrete suggestions welcome.

Wow I Never Knew That A Bird Could Be That Strong!!*LOL* But I Think That You Should Try Catching It And Look Up The Kind Of Bird It Is And Put Where His Type Of Bird Lives(Unless It Lives Far Away Then Take It To The Next Clostest Place)

That does sound exactly like a mockingbird. It's a protected species, and in Texas - it's their state bird. Don't kill it or you could go to jail. I'm surprised your lab hasn't eaten it. Birds have to sleep, so if you put a spotlight on it's nest - day and night, it won't spend much time at home. Scarecrows don't do any good because mockingbirds aren't scared of much.

there was recently a case like this in Florida.
When the bird comes after you or the dogs, smack it or chse it away. and don't the dogs defend themselves? if so, let them chase the bird. or call animal control to come take the bird away. how long has the nest been there? if you can reach it, place it somewhere else. or get your neighbors to move the nest as along as there's no babies in it.

Well, you could relocate the nest to a nearby forrest.
Or when it comes out to attack your dogs, get it with a pressured watergun or place a fake owl on your roof to keep it away(it will be scared to fly too close to your house.).
Well, good luck to you!
Maybe you should try to catch it with a net, put it in a cage and relocate it (with the nest).

The bird is only protecting its nesting area.
Nature takes care of itself.

Well...there is always a BB gun. Other than that...I don't really know what you could do. That bird is crazy! You can call and try to have someone capture it and relocate it perhaps.

You just have to wait it out, once the fledgings take care of themselves your fine. I had the same problem but the bird attacked anyone who came outside from my front door.

it sounds alot like a mockingbird. I've seen them pull the fur out of the backs of cats, chase snakes, & dive bomb a guy mowing his lawn! size doesn't seem to matter. they will stop when they're through nesting. good luck!
