I don't know why you are on Paxil. I'm assuming it's either anxiety or depression. I was on it for both. I took it for about two years. It just depends how long your symptoms are around. It's very common to take that type of medication for a few years. I am actually on something else now because Paxil helped with my depression but I needed a stronger anxiety drug.
Paxil works well though and is very mild so you will be find taking it for a while.

Hi, i'm first to answer, so I'll make it quick, so that by the time I hit "submit" I won't be outgunned by someone to write a 2-sentence-response.
The key to overcoming your difficulties is consistent/honest feedback.
If paxil isn't working for you, tell your doctor.
He will NOT say "oh just keep taking it, you're stupid"
Doctors are very honorable people who went through 4 years of med school plus 6-10 years of residency.
As long as your doctor is AAMS certified, you are dealing with someone smarter than yourself.

There have been several major lawsuits over Paxil. I would recommend that you switch to another med. And DO NOT TRY TO STOP PAXIL ALL AT ONCE!! you must slowly wean yourself off a little at a time.

In order to feel any results you need to be on it a few months. As far as How long you should be on it usually people take it for years but in lower doses. Dont stop taking it or it may cause seizures with sudden stopping. This medicine has many side affects including sexual. I hated it. It made me not want to do anything / feel anything. Like an emotional coma. remember it may take many different perscriptions before you find the one that works for you. And its a 3 part step pills therapy and the last part comes from you. You have to want to feel better and work with the Dr.s / Therapist

It's up to you when you want to go off. But be sure to do it with doctor's guidance. Stopping cold turkey can cause severe problems, including seizures.

I don't recommend it at all, it is addicting. I hope you don't have as hard a time getting off it as I did...
