inside the mouth, I found that you can crush an aspirin to fine powder, sprinkle it on the cold sore. It stings for a few seconds, then takes all the soreness away and the sore heals much faster. I've never had one outside my mouth, so I don't have an answer for that.

pop the cold sore and apply rubbing alcohol or bleach to it right away.Make sure the puss doesn't spread.Soak it for at least 3 minutes.The rubbing alcohol or bleach will kill the virus.
Do this numerous times and the cold sore should dry up within the day.Apply carmex or neosporin after every application.It will go away fast.It works for me.

Protect your lips more like sunblock, and don't bite on them, lots of chapstick. If you have insurance then get a prescription for the medicine then it would be pretty cheap.

Take garlic pills daily ( 1000 mg ) like you would or should you vitamin and don't pick at it.
