Was wondering when you would get to this!
CNN had a democrat debate in which the questions were asked by people via youtube? Did you see it?
Anyway the topic of gay marriage was brought up and only one candidate said flat out he would approve of gay marriage. All the others said "civil Unions".
Obama even said something like he would approve for the civil unions and leave it up to the churches to decide if it was a recognized "marriage"
I was screaming at the TV cause when me and my hubby got "married" we asked for a "marriage license" from the state of Texas...not Podunk Baptist Church.

hmmm, I think that's a really interesting question. I mean, the act of getting married, or during a marraige ceremony, the ceremony is usually held in the church or something. But from my understanding, the act of marraige has been a practice way before Christianity. Maybe the ceremonies were not the same, but marraige have been a practice for all different people and for all different religions around the globe. I'm so tired of people being so hateful and ignorant. I hope that changes. I know, I'm puzzled also.

no citizen should be prevented from participating in a civil contract on the basis of religion or sexual orientation.
that said, government should only concern themselves with civil unions, and marriage should be left to the church. couples could choose one, or both, or neither.
and yes, homophobes, that does mean that gay couples could marry, as there are churches which do not share your bigotry.

Marriage is a civil union, dolt.
You didn't "let" me get married.
I got married in a courtroom by a justice of the peace.

A marriage with a license but without a church/religious service is still a legal marriage.

A religious/church marriage service without the legal contract is not.

I do not see your point.

What a great question. Why is it that the government has any say in what kind of union can be granted special status is beyond me.

Star for you.

So we're not letting people get married because of their lack of religion now? That's just plain stupid. Go home.

The answer is to remove government sanctioned "marriage" completely and let any two people form legal unions.
