Why did God's laws speak so strongly against sorcery (Lev 19:31, Deut 18:10-12). Sorcery was punishable by death because it was a crime against God himself. To invoke evil powers violated the first commandment to not worship any other God. Sorcery was rebellion against God and his authority in essence, it was teaming up with Satan instead of with God.

SORCERY - divination by an alleged assistance of evil spirits. God wants His Children to seek Him, His Power, His Will - not of the evil.
Forbidden, Lev. 19:26-28
Practiced:
By the Egyptians, Isa. 19:3,11,12;
by the magicians, Ex. 7:11,22; 8:7,18;
Books of sorcery destroyed, Acts 19:19.
A sorcerer is a person who prescribes sorcery drugs for the purpose of disabling the brain and gaining behavioral control over a person, with the use of toxic substances over a period of time, until that person comes into conformity to the desired behavior, decided by the sorcerer. sorcery is a word . God never said that He doesnt like it , He said for us not to practice it as He is the ultimate sorcerer . what He also said , to me anyways , is that sorcery is a form of entertainment , not power , and since He already owns the patent that one should find a way outside of sorcery to rule the world in which one lives . why go against a proven ( if you believe ) when the path of most resistance will lead you to your own personal promised land . ( the promise is your fantasy if you try to achieve it the right way ) . call me crazy if you must but you must know that i am right or absolutely wrong and when God is a mystery to you then you cant know either .

Sorcery is the use of power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits especially for divining: Necromancy.
I think the defination explains why God doesn't like it.

Sorcery is witchcraft. Anything that is evil meets with God's displeasure. This form of evil goes contrary to the word of God and it is also dangerous and destructive. Most importantly it draws people away from Christ. The Bible says to separate ourselves from the unfruitful works of darkness. Romans 13:12; Ephesians 5:11-12.

Catholic Church teaches:
All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion.
These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons.
Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.
