What an excellent question you have asked. The only way to find patience is to ask God for it. Asking for patience is the most difficult thing to do because if you mean it God certainly will teach it to you (it is one of the fruits of the Spirit and is the first part of the definition of love - "love is patient") but it takes a long time. It is either the most difficult or the final lesson in life. But the Bible tells us Be Not Anxious and that is a command not a suggestion. Impatience is usually due to us not having what we want be that material posessions or a situation. That means we are putting our wants above God's Providential care. When we are sick, or more painfully when a loved one is suffering, it can and does try the patience of a saint. There is no easy answer but you have had answers from some very special people on YA today. Thanks for asking as all of us who wrestle with this difficulty know exactly where you are coming from. God bless you and go with you.

First, recognize that you are not in control. That is the hardest step. It took me years to realize that I can only control so much. After I realize that a greater power was at play in my life, "I let go, and let GOD." I never understood that saying until that point in my life. I pray, but prayers are not answered the way you hope unless it is to the ultimate benefit of your life and those around you. For example, if you pray to win the lottery but winning would make you greedy and mean, your prayer may not be answered. Sometimes, not thinking about it can have things happen much quicker. The key is to just relinquish your worry because worrying is like a rocking chair - you rock and rock, and go nowhere. To be at peace, just focus on something else that you can improve and make happen. That is when things will come together for the betterment of yourself. Good luck!

Philippians 4:6-7 always gets me through situations like this... I copied a few different versions so that you can get the full feel of the scripture. I pray it helps! :) God bless...
Philippians 4:6-7 (New King James Version)
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (Amplified Bible)
6Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
7And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a oul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (The Message)
6-7Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

A situation that YOU don't have any control over?
Dear, YOU never control anything -- control is an illusion.
The peace comes from realizing that GOD is in control, that HE knows what he is doing, and that HE wishes only your good, not ill.
-----------------------------
Romans 8:28 (NIV)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
=====edit2====
Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"
"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

When I find myself obsessing about something, I always pause and say to myself, "What good am I doing worrying myself like this? Is this going to help the situation at all? Is there something I can do to change this?" If I find no good answer within my heart, I put it to rest and resolve myself to the fact that what will be will be. It's in God's hands and I cease worrying. Logically, what else can you do?

Patience i think is the key ... only from past experiences do we realize that with patience comes good things. So i would say reflect back upon other instances where you were not in control and reflect upon how patience paid off and perhaps comfort will be found in the present situation.

I would sit myself down. & remember that I am small compared with the world, universe. I would remember how little I could affect the universe.
I could not change the law of gravity, I am but a grain of sand on the beach. Anything that happens to a grain of sand will hardly affect the beach.
Then I would know that whatever I'm worried about is really not a big deal. Life goes on, the sun will still rise the next morning and the people I care about will still be around and love me the same.

This is the most difficult thing.
In Buddhism, it is stated that attachment is the key to suffering.
It has also been stated in various forms, by various groups that ultimately, we are in control of very little outside of ourselves, if at all.
That having been said, for modern westerners, we measure ourselves often by our goals and achievements, AND we base our happiness on our ability to influence persons, places, and things to our desired end.
We each work very hard in this and relate our efforts directly to our level of happiness when things go our way or disappointment when things do not go our way. If you can somehow break the connection between your hard work and your attachment to the desired result, then it MAY be possible to appreciate your efforts, regardless of the outcome.
This much easier for me to write to you than to practice. For instance, I would really like to get home from work at a certain time every evening and I work very hard to make this happen, but that ******** traffic impedes my desires on a regular basis. I see that my mood is tied directly to my great attachment to get home sooner than traffic will allow. If I can let go of my attachment, I might one day enjoy the ride.
Perhaps you might breathe deeply and say I’ve done my part, and I can’t do anymore sh-it about it, God, please help me wait this bi-tch out.

James 4, "...ye have not, because ye ask not. "
1 John 3:22-24, "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."
James 1:2-5, "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

You must pray to God, and ask him for peace and patience over the situation. Have faith, regardless of opposition, and God will answer your prayers.
