I agree with the person who said it's a love bite. Biting is a sign of affection among cats. Unfortunately, the bites are calibrated for a cat's pain tolerance, not a human's. This results in a great deal of inter-species misunderstandings! Think of it as a compliment. You cat is taking you "into the tribe" so to speak!

They are called love bites. All cats, large and small, wild or domestic do this at all stages of their lives. The male holds the female by the cuff of her neck during mating. The momma holds the babies down during training by using her teeth and claws. The babies play with each other by mocking what the big boys do and bite each other everywhere, often really hard. They will dig in with tiny claws sunk deep into the soft folds of his sisters belly while eating mouths full of silky kitty fur. Along comes another sibling and dives into the pile with all fours. When the big cats go for a kill they grab their prey by the neck and take 'em down, hard and fast. They know this spot is the most vulnerable. From the day the babies are born they learn that biting is held in high regard throughout every aspect of their lives. Our house cats today, still have this wild instinct to want to attack both in their means of fighting, playing or showing you all the love their little hearts can hold. You should feel honored when your cat loves you and respects you enough to bite the "peewaden" out of your leg, arm or right on the end of your nose. You can consider yourself royalty and carry your marks proud when your feline first looks closely into your eyes, with so much adoration and affection, then sinks his fangs right into the right side of your neck. Watch the movements of his tail or ears and even the way his skin flutters before the attack begins. After some study, you will learn the language spoken by and only understood by, Gods most sultry of all animals and "true cat lovers" Make no mistake about this, you do NOT own the cat, the cat owns YOU.

Some cats do that when they decide they've had enough petting. Usually there are warning signs: The tail tip might start twitching a bit, instead of the whole tail waving, for instance.
You may have to teach your kitty not to bite. I had one that started to get too rough with me once and wouldn't let go for anything. That is, until I swatted his backside. He behaved afterwards.
Good luck with your cat!

My cat does the same thing. We'll be sitting cuddling one second with him purring, and he's biting me the next second!
I googled his behavior and found the different personalities that cats have. "Jekle and Hyde" is the one that best describes my cat. He is simply letting you know that he doesn't want to be pet anymore and purrs up to the moment he bites me.
Watch his movements very closely while you are petting him. This sometimes works for me, but sometimes you just have to take the good with the bad.

If you're cuddling with him, you're doing something. It's probably not that he doesn't like cuddling most of the time, he's probably just telling you he's done cuddling. And he can't just say "Hey, I'm done with this." So he finds another way to say it.

You have to remember they are part of the felion kingdom...lions, tigers, panthers, just smaller....... Cats are cold, unloving creatures they only like you when they want food or shelter, but if you choose a cat you must love it!
