The simple answer is because GOD didn't make you that way. There are certainly SPIRITual reasons why this is so. For instance, we see that on the Seventh day GOD rested, which shows us how we as images of GOD also require rest periods. Sleep has been theorized to have been a way for the brain to perform needed functional operations like a computer that does routine maintenance after business hours.
However, we see that GOD has many times given dreams to sleeping men that were prophetic. Why would GOD choose to give at these times. It is sure GOD has given visions to those who are awake, and those who receive when awake often times are able to prophecy, while those who are asleep dream dreams which may be prophetic. You'll also note that the mind and the body are unified at the present, but that with the death of the body the soul continues to LIVE and in the resurrection is given a new body . .. that is we in our essence are our souls, to which we are our body while we live in it, unified as a whole untion of mind and body. and that the soul has an existance given by GOD which gives us LIFE in JESUS CHRIST, our soul . .. which is unified to the DIVINE in BAPTISM . . .
Thus we must reflect for a moment on the essential character of the brain as a processing unit for sensory information and is integrated with our SPIRITual selves which is greater than the physical manifestation of the body. That our dreams, bring to light a SPIRITual LIFE we have in our souls, while our brains are resting, our souls are still there, aware, and ALIVE in JESUS CHRIST.
That being said does the soul rest, it does of course in GOD, we ask for peace in the KINGDOM which is PARADISE. GOD being spirit rested on the seventh day. And we being images of GOD are required to rest also.
Now, evolutionists suggest that this is a natural process where by animals hybernate that they can keep energy use at a minimum while not hunting, as well as perform maintenece tasks. It is for instance certain that people will heal better when happy and restful than when disgruntled and laboring. And if you have a limited supply of food it is necessary to rest when not eating or hunting to conserve energy.
People are flesh, and SPIRIT. But if we have faith we can be healed through JESUS CHRIST. All things are possible through faith in JESUS CHRIST.
In short i would see our need for sleep as part of human nature, which is an image of DIVINE NATURE, and indicates a period of rest from labors, though we are alive, less aware, during this time, we do dream, and our souls may be active at this time, which is why we can if given by GOD have prophetic dreams . ..
Futher, it is interesting to note the time that JESUS was asleep on teh boat, being tired while the apostles were awake and worried about the storm. They lost faith, but JESUS awakened and calmed the seas. The storm happened while JESUS was asleep.
Later we see when JESUS was praying in agony in the Garden, the Apostles fell asleep and they were rebuked by JESUS, "Could you not watch one hour with me".
All these things make me think of the watch in the night before the return of CHRIST. As a thousand years is to GOD as a watch in the night. Perhaps GOD is resting while man is active and worried about the coming storm, but JESUS shall rise and calm the storm if we have faith, before the boat is tossed too much. But we shouldn't fall sleep or JESUS will come upon us unaware and rebuke us.
LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

I can stay awake all night it is all day I have trouble with. There is the concept that sometimes the older you get the less sleep you need, 5 hours is enough for me currently.
