No. Believing means "accepting as true". If I say that my children or spouse give meaning then I accept as true that those people have worth and that caring for them is better than not caring.

For J.P. who asks why life has to have a purpose: Our human nature demands that our lives mean something. You may say your life has no purpose but I'll bet you can't live that way. People who really mean it when they say that their lives have no meaning are on their way to insanity or suicide.

Yes, of course there can.

On the other hand, if you feel that life is simply a trial, and it's all about pain and tribulation, until the day you finally die and go to a happy perfect place called heaven... how can your crappy life right now have any meaning?

The fact that religious people die crying and frightened just like everyone else is proof positive that deep down inside, they don't believe in the heaven fairytale either.

Why not? My family has meaning to me even though I can't be 100% certain they actually exist.
