You need yourself a "Mr. Boston" great book to have and wonderful reference.

Well if you've been hired already, just ask for instruction. In the next few weeks read bartending manuals (which also have tips and tricks in there along with garnishes, that's important). Maybe offer to work a few nights for free and be the bar-back for the bartender so you can watch and hear the customers. You'll get a feel for what the regulars order. And when in doubt, just say you're new and "I can make it if you tell me what's in it!" with a smile. I learned how to make tons of drinks that way. It's a fun job, really.

Like all other jobs, it is best to go through an apprenticeship period first. Ask your employer if he can arrange for some on the job training for you first. You will pick up the pub slang fastest that way. Pub slang varies from place to place, so you can't learn it from books or the internet.

First, order a copy of the Bartender's Bible:

or the Bartender's Black Book:

There are lots of books on the subject. Try the libraries or your local book stores.
