We already have him on a specially formulated low phospherous/ low high protein diet to aid slowing down the progression of the disease. But want to know if any one else with a dog with the same condition has had any luck utilising other treatments etc Also, and I know this is a piece of string question, but how long will a dog live (on average and with care) from being diagnosed as being in the early stages of this disease to death. His illness breaks my heart as he is a great dog, can any body help? Thanks

I have seen numerous dogs with nephritis. They can do very well on the special diet as well as subcutaneous fluids. If he worsens, he should be seen immediately to have his values checked and put on IV fluids. Do they know the source of the nephritis? Sometimes other diseases can play a factor in developing nephritis, such as lyme disease and diabetes. If those are present then the prognosis becomes more guarded. I have seen dogs live anywhere from 6 mo to 2 years with kidney problems.

I am sorry to hear of your distress. Now, I am not a vet and neither of my dogs suffer from nephritis, but here is something you can try: www.denes.com

Denes are the veterinary natural herbal experts. Devised by a veterinary surgeon, many years ago, they offer wonderful and highly beneficial supplements for your pet. I remember they used to produce these fantastic Kidney Tablets which really helped my very first Yorkie over 30yrs ago. Maybe they still do these. If they don't, I'm sure they can help you and your dog anyway. You are already feeding the correct diet so, you're more than halfway there.

A word of hope ... Veterinary science is progressing at the speed of light; there is no reason why your dog's condition cannot be 'managed' right into old age.

Have a word with Denes; they cannot 'cure' your dog's nephritis BUT, they cannot harm him either. Please ask your vet first and then take my advice.

Luv to your greyhound from Mo and pets!

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/axLWC

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

I'm so sorry, but I don't have any experience with that disease. Maybe google it? And make sure to ask your vet all of the questions you have here.

My prayers are with you and your doggie! Best wishes!
