I went to a free skin cancer screening and was told I should come back to have 2 dysplastic nevi (abnormal moles) looked at. Has anyone has this done before and had everything turn out ok? My appt is in 2 weeks and I'm completely freaking out about this!
The last time I was at the doc was 6 months ago to have my annual gyno exam (everything ok). One of the moles is on my breast and my OB never mentioned anything about it (she had to do a breast exam on me... also, I had a baby last year so saw lots of docs- don't you think one would mention something if something looked suspicious?).
I do have a photo of me from 2 years ago in a bathing suit (one mole is on my breast) and I can see the mole and it looks pretty much the same, but it definitely is dysplastic nevi.
Can someone help calm me down? Thanks!!!!

OK check it out. Don't freak out! I've had 3 moles removed and checked out. Each time recieving a clean bill of health. They do this because if you went to see them and they saw something that "could be harmful" and said/did nothing and later on down the road it becomes "something" they could face a lawsuit. It doesn't hurt to want to know if something is harmful or could become harmful. Most likely they are just average moles, but have them checked regularly...you never know they could turn into something. I have one on the back of my neck I have checked frequently. I also had several removed, and yes...they can come back.

I have had a mole surgically removed from my back. It had started to itch and get dry and so I also had it tested for cancer. The shot to numb the area did not hurt. It felt more like a little pinch. The cutting and stitching were unnoticeable due to the anesthetic. A few hours later, it began to hurt a little, but it was never generally too awful. The only time it really hurt was when I would move in such a way that it pulled on the stitches. I learned very quickly what movements not to make. I couldn't get it wet for a week. That was the biggest problem. I washed up in the bath tub with just a little water in the bottom of the tub. When the stitches were removed, it was a little uncomfortable. I could feel the doctor pulling them out. Then he put on a bandage that I was to keep for another week and I could not get that wet either. When I took that off, the scar was fairly bright red. This has faded over time. I put vitamin E oil on it for about two weeks, every day, after the second bandage came off. After a couple of years now, it is barely noticeable.

Hi, 2 years ago I had 3 suspicious moles removed. One close to my elbow and two on my upper back. They used some kind of tool that reminded my of a pencil with the eraser removed and it punched the mole out of my skin. It reminded me of a leather punch. The one on my arm and the smaller one on my back was OK, but the larger one on my back came back irregular. They sent me to a surgeon that grafted the layers of the mole off of my back and all is now good. They told me to always keep am eye on my moles and if they grow to see the DR. If they get bigger around than a pencil eraser and if you can picture then fold in half and they aren't a perfect match then get them checked out. The scars from the plugs look like cigarette burns (and felt like it for a few days after!) and I have a scar on my back from the surgery, but I'm glad it was caught when it was. I don't expose my back to the sun any more, either.

Calm down!
I had a place on my arm removed by my general practicioner in his office. They froze my arm, removed the mole, and stitched my arm up. The results came back negative. I still have a scar where he took the place off, I don't know if that's normal or not. I think if your other doctors were concerned about it they would have mentioned it. I also have several moles that I wonder if they should be removed, but it has never been mentioned to me by any of my doctors. I figure if no one brings it up and they don't change (as you said yours haven't) there isn't anything to worry about.
Take a few deep breaths and relax, and think positively! Good luck!

Don't freak out, no big deal, They are not painful to have removed. They will do a biopsy to tell for sure and normally if no big changes as in your case they are not cancer but possibly could become cancerous in future. I and my wife both have had moles removed that looked suspicious, we have fished and been in outdoors for years, they say this is cause, we both have had basil cell carcinoma removed with out any further problems.
Please do not overly worry, take things as they come.
Hope this helps

Yes, I had a suspicious mole and was told it was malignant (cancerous) or benign (non cancerous). Both can take the same appearances and require tests. But, dont worry, moles good or bad, are easily taken care of. My father had a cancerous mole and he's all good now.

Removal procedure depends on how deep the mole is. I had one removed from my back by freezing it, which was quite painless and did not cause any irritation or any discomfort.
