About a month ago, I made my two boys, 10 & 9, aware of high fructose corn syrup. (My youngest especially gets very hyper whenever he ingests HFCS). Whenever we buy something in the store, we look at the label to see if it contains HFCS. We are constantly amazed at the items this bad fructose is in. Yesterday, I wanted to buy some Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns, looked at the label, and yes, it was the 2nd ingredient listed! This stuff is so bad for you. Please, also take the time to learn about this horrible additive.

Boy, you guys are stuffy. Ok, here's my question...Do you know how bad HFCS is for you and your family?

What really matters is the amount of sugar in the food. Look at the nutrition label to see how many grams of sugar are in it.

This isn't a question, but sort of a public service statement. But you are correct. I found out my lo-cal bread, with lots of fiber and good things for you, has HFCS as one of it's first few ingredients. They say that's when it's the worst, when it is among the first 5, I believe.

-----As far as people "not dying from it", it facilitates weight gain and overeating. And a lot of people die of the complications of that -- heart problems, strokes, diabetes.

Yep... we recently found out that my son is pretty severely allergic to corn... It was pretty frustrating to find things for him to eat.

We found a trick though, look at organic items. They are made with cane sugar as opposed to HFCS.

Another word for sugar. I'm a diabetic and things like these are what I have to watch for when I eat. No matter what crop it came from it's still sugar.

It is terrible for you and I didn't realize it was in bread until last weekend when a friend of mine pointed it out. Reading ingredient labels really opens your eyes, doesn't it?

I agree. So what is your question? This is a question and answer forum. If you don't have a question, then you are in the wrong place. Maybe you should go write a blog or something.

I know. It's cheaper than pure cane sugar and harder on your body. You almost have to make everything yourself if you don't want to have it, or go to the health food store.

I already know about it. There's a conspiracy to lace just about all of the shelved food with it.

its cheap and it makes stuff taste good.

Better than putting sacharine in stuff...

or Aspertaine... or a lot of other REALLY unhealthy chemicals.

At least corn syrup is derived from CORN.... not petroleum.
