I'm back in the market for a job after owning my own lawn service- which I can no longer do ( hard physical labor ). I have not worked for anyone else, or applied for a job, in 22 years. I would appreciate any suggestions, or thoughts, on my hunt for a job. I'm not sure how to go about it, what to say... It's been so many years- help!

This is what I would do for when I was job hunting.

First, I get a news paper to see who is hiring and I try the Internet too, but most business will not post ads or signs so I would just walk in and request for an application.

Second, I make sure I have a resume because its a great way to list a summary of your skills and qualification to those owners who don't have time to really meet with you. At times I would use the resume if they weren't hiring and I would ask to leave it with them in case an opening comes up. I think you have the skills to really go far- you owned a lawn service that to me says you have supervision skills, muti tasked, customer service experience, organational skills..

I hope that this might help a little
Even start by figuring out what occupation you always wanted to do, but never did. I know you are 53, but look into classes as well..

good luck

If you've been in the Lawn Care business for 22 years, and handled your own bookkeeping, that might be an 'in' for you to a job out there. You can do office work involving bookkeeping or recordkeeping. Although, most of it is computerized these days.
You should try going to your local community college or Workforce Development Center, (every large city has one), and see if they can help you with either retraining in another field or they would be able to interview you and give you an idea where you stand.
Both places need appointments. Every community colllege has free career/resume writing advice, as well as the Workforce Development centers. They will show you how to write a resume and cover letter and play up your strong points.
Good Luck !

Ist, look at the classifieds to see what is out there in your fields of expertise. Work up a good resume & start sending it out to prospective employers. Then take a deep breath, calm down a little & start hitting the streets putting in your applications. Be prepared to play up your strong points & make the employer believe that he needs you with his company.
Good Luck

I'm not going to kid you, it's going to be tough.

I would thing your best bet would be in a sales position for a lawn equipment company. Try their websites and call the people who sold you the equipment when you had your own company.
