I pick a new purpose for my life every year or so. Currently my purpose is to finish all of Serpentshrine Cavern* with my guildmates and to make Top Contributer on Y!A. Check back in a year and I'm sure my purpose will have changed.

First of all, it isn't possible to have any real purpose for our lives unless
....

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted 20th century mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Laureate)

"I pick a new purpose for my life every year or so." Nooo. We can't pick a purpose for which we were created. That makes no sense at all.

If we don't want the idea of God, then life has no purpose and all we're doing is contriving something, e.g. "make the world a better place", that gives us a good feeling. But the feelings have no reality behind them.

It makes sense to me that if God exists, He put this need for purpose into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him. So seeking God to know God is my purpose and it is one that will take an infinite amount of time.

The apparent and only scientifically proveable answer to this question is that in nature the purpose of life is to reproduce your own species. I have done that, having given birth to four offspring. So according to the natural world I have fulfilled my purpose. So why am I here?

I think we generally have the same purpose in life and that is to serve others, in any way we can. I believe that we live not just for ourselves but for others as well.

While I am alive, I continue to live that purpose.
