I'm paying the same amount as my car is worth to insure it. I''m old enough to not be a boy racer in a baceball cap and young enough to not be "an old duffer in a flat cap".

Sounds like your insurance company still considers you high risk.

Occupation has very little to do with it (usually a 10% decrease at best) What is your driving record? Are you over 30? Did you have insurance for at least a year before signing with this company? Do you drive a car that is normally driven by a "boy racer in a baseball cap"? Do you live in a city where the car is at high risk for being stolen? These are just some of the factors that go into your rate. You might want to shop around.

NO matter what, do not get the insurance that the bank loan offers you. It is just to protect the loan, and nothing else. You will be considered an uninsured driver if anything happened.

I cannot imagine you are intending a career change solely to get cheaper car insurance! The corollory is that you are intending to be 'creative' when applying for insurance. Please don't do it - the 'savings' are phony and you end up paying for a worthless piece of paper.

The head of Car Insurance at Churchill (UK), say that their records show that those with the lowest claims are: Farmers, Insurance Underwriters, Aircraft Fitters and Ambulance Drivers, so those occupations would have the lowest premiums. They also suggest people who have a job which allows them to work outside and are not confined to a desk make fewer claims, so this could influence the cost of their premiums too. Obviously, age is a big factor too.

I have not heard of any insurance that bases their rates on an occupation. Most are based on age, past driving record, type of vehicle and the type of coverage you desire.

Something where you can telecommute. Your rates should be lower if you only drive your car a couple of thousand miles a year for leisure. Also, drop your collision and comprehensive coverage if you are still carrying it.
