You should try to walk/run about 1 hr every day for at least a month and then slowly start doing it 5 days a week, 4 days until you are showing that you are loosing weight. Make sure you eat well and drink lots of water! This is what I do and it works great!

If I was you, I would loose the weight then quit smoking, or quit smoking and then they weight. It is very hard to do both at the same time. On average, you will gain 15 pounds when you quit smoking, unless you learn to use fresh veg tables as your replacement for a cigarette. I quit 26 years ago, and the need for a cigarette will pass after 5 minutes. It is true it is "mind over matter, and if it don't matter, you don't mind." I would put in at least 1/2 hour daily to exercise, and usually after you eat. That's when you can burn off the most calories. Evening time when you are sitting watching TV, is probably the hardest time not to have a cigarette, so make sure you have something there to keep your hands busy. If you don't really want to quit smoking, then you won't . You have to really want to quit in order for you to accomplice it.

I have lost a total of 120 pounds so far.
I lost 105 pounds in my first 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.
It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Treadmill workout burns fat very efficiently. Hence it is one of the ideal fat loss workouts. The variable speed, incline and resistance lets you exercise as per your fitness level. However, treadmill workout can be boring. You need to make it interesting to ensure you stick to the routine for a long time.
Heaving fun while working out is the best method of ensuring you are committed to the exercise. In turn, this leads to sustained fat loss. You can have fun while exercising in variety of ways.
Watch your favorite television programs, sports or movies while walking on the treadmill. This will keep your mind engrossed in the action on the screen, while your body enjoys the benefits.

You gain weight when you quit smoking because many people get over the oral addiction by eating. Try swimming, it’s a great total body workout, and fun. Maybe do yoga in the morning, and swim in the afternoon, or some permutation therof.
