In the evangelical tradition if you say a paragraph on a card you go to heaven, all sin past and present is forgiven, so as long as you really mean it at that time thats it, you can go off and committ attrocities but God will forgive you.

He would be like a DA that cant convict because you were not read your rights when arrested.

The catholic tradition is a lot more logical. You need to be in a state of friendship with God. You have to without a doubt work out your faith with fear and trembeling and be accountable to God and his people for your whole life. You have to give your whole life to Jesus and endure to the end.

It sounds a lot more like what the bible was talking about and what early christians believed.

YOu can quote the bible but you are quoting it out of context.

I was a Protestant and am now Catholic.

The once saved, always saved idea is held by many but the idea being that if you are truly saved you won't go around committing atrocities...if you do, then you aren't really saved in the first place.

But when you research and understand the history of Christianity, the specific history of the Catholic Church and the teachings and practices of the Church...it only makes sense to be Catholic. I firmly believe that if those who protest the faith, really understood it...they would convert.

This, in no way means they are not saved...they just do not have the fullness of grace available to them that they would have within the Church. Since I've become Catholic my spiritual senses have been honed...my focus is more on Christ...this is because of the sacraments, specifically the Eucharist. There is no substitute for receiving the body and blood of Christ. It changes you from the inside out.

Jesus never said, once saved always saved. The evangelicals have it wrong. The Roman Catholic Church has existed for 2000 years and is the Church established in the Bible. Evangelical churches are children of the protestant reformers who invented a Christianity that Jesus would not recognize.
St. Paul said, to work out your salvation in fear and trembling.
Evangelicals have easy answers that do not hold up to scrutiny in the Bible. They read and only know a few verse.
The like to push the book of Romans alot talking about "works." But if you read St. James, "Faith without works is dead." Now we must put the two together and really look at what is being said here.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a great source book. To is "Catholicism and Fundamentalism."

I agree that the Catholic tradition is more logical than the Protestant tradition. After all -- being a member of a church that you believe was founded bu god is much more logical than being a member of a church that was founded by men who broke away from the church founded by God.

On the other hand -- being more logical than the protestants doesn't make the Catholic tradition truly logical. All religions rely on faith rather than logic.

I would say that the Catholic faith is more consistant than the others -- not that it is logical.

Well,

As a Catholic, I think we have a more full faith, but we are not perfect, not by a long shot.

I do not have faith out of "fear and trembling" but out of Love of God.

Catholics are human as well, we fail, and we ask for forgiveness, I know many really great Protestant people as well.

Peace be with you all.

Right on. With the Protestants its "once saved, always saved." If that's the case, then there's no point in praying to God for forgiveness anymore, because everything is taken care of from here on out. It renders the line "forgive us our trespasses..." in the Lord's prayer useless. Or do they not get that?
