I think they have a country-wide Referendum on the new Constitution scheduled for August 19. And since Bangkok is where the main government is, some protests and disturbances may happen there around this date.

This constitution has been written by the new military government there. And many supporters of the previous elected government probably disagree with what's going on.

If I were you, I'd stay away from any major government buildings and from any gatherings that may look like a political protest. Such protests are illegal. The police may take action. And bystanders may suffer the consequences together with the protesters.

I read comments above and disagree with some of them. There's nothing to worry about for tourists or people who do business and live their normal lives. As long as you won't get involve with politics or join the demonstration (few thousands set up and sponsored by corrupted ex-premier Thaksin).

I live my normal life these days no different to what I have done for years, working, travelling al over the country, playing sports, dining out, drinking/partying and coming back home late after midnight etc.

The only thing I would recommend is avoiding to vist 3 southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. You still have 73 more provinces to visit.

It would seem to be safe still. If anything goes down, just hail the next taxi and drive out (or stay in a motel near the airport). They really want and need the tourist dollars, so you should be well insulated from political disagreements.

Safe??
It is as safe as a country can be - when it is on the verge of a civil war and an economical collapse. And where the UN expats are warned twice weekly against contact with the police force....
And with the Thai mentality generally speaking Thailand has never been 'safe'.

But still

It may be as safe as flying.

Yes.
But watch out when crossing the streets. The traffic is a bit intense.
