I would not say it is hopeless. Yes it is definitely better for a baby to stay with it's Mommy at least till 10 weeks.. but that is for those who actually have a choice on the matter. You don't and it sounds like you are doing a great job. Me personally I do not crate my dogs at night. They all sleep in bed with us (and our cats join us at times.. crowded bed.. lol). And to let you know that now that you are bringing him in your bed to try later to train him to a crate at night will be very difficult. But my thought is why bother if he is behaving while sleeping with you and you don't really seem to mind it.
Anyway I would continue being as caring as you are. And for the socialization that he needs I suggest you play with him a lot and teach him when he is biting too hard (as puppies will do) by saying "ouch" in a high pitch manner (as another puppy would do) usually this is enough for the puppy to back off and maybe lick you as a sorry I hurt you. If he gets too rough and the ouch does not work then stop playing and turn away. He will get the message and chill out some. If you have any friends with young puppies or active (but gentle) dogs then socialize your little sweetie with them as well when he gets a bit older. Also when he is a bit older another socialization tactic is to take him with you around other people so he can learn to be friendly to the people as well.

So I think with you being so caring your pup will turn out just fine. As I said at the start the warnings are for folks who actually have a choice.. so they do what is in the dog's best interest... you ARE doing that already. You are gonna be awesome at it.. I can tell.

I have a male pit bull that I have raised since he was two weeks old. He is now six. I bottle fed him the puppy formula from Pet Smart, Walmart. Made sure he had all his shots. He slept with me from the start and he still does. He knows he is a dog. He is the best dog that I have ever owned, and I have had alot over the years. He is loyal, loving, funny, protective. I never put him in a crate. I wanted him to be a member of my family. He listens to me. I wish I knew you, I would help you with the pup. I think I raised a very good dog. Good luck!

Your dog is fine, and will be fine, I wouldn't get it use to sleeping with me though thats a bad habit to break. Also if you can and as soon as you can, you should get a puppy friend, about the same age or a friendly older dog to help it learn doggy ways and stuff like that. Most people thing that pups raised by people instead of there own moms don't act the same or aren't "normal" but i've bottle fed and raised many to turn out fine.

I had the exact same situation that you are having. Don't worry your pit bull will be fine. My pit bul is 4 months now and he is as normal as any dog, and the best thing is that he is totally devoted to me! He listens to everything I say, and he is just as healthy and as play full as any other puppy. And one good advice I'll get for you is to get another puppy at the same close age as yours and raise them together. That way they won't be lonely, and your puppy will have someone with them always. I got a black Labrador for my pup, and they get along great.

Try bringing the crate into your room at night. That way, the pup knows you are near, but you won't have the problem of re-training it to sleep in its own place. At one month, most puppies are still with their mother and siblings, so it may be a little cold at night. Try putting a warm (not too hot) hot water bottle under its bedding. Consistency is the key here. Try not to do things that you don't intend to keep doing - e.g. bringing the dog into your bed. Make sure the dog has plenty of time to interact with you and your family. Keep the training sessions short and positive. Start toilet training. Keep calm and good luck.

No you can get a puppy 6 week i did. First off do not let him sleep with you very bad start! Crate him at night yes he will whine till he gets use to it.When the puppy whines let him out enough to go outside to go potty and right back in.He will learn i whine outside to potty. I put a tv on and layed by his cage and rubbed his head. I potty trained my pit in 1 month fully now he doesnt sleep in a crate,I still have it for when i leave. I personally would crate him when you leave and for night time. The crate is a safe place for your pup i even fed my puppy in the crate.

Kitty has a good site there. You may need to socialize the pup tho. Try getting together with some one else that has pups that age. He will be fine with lots of love and kindness.

I would let the dog sleep with you another month then if you want to stop the habit before the dog always wants to sleep with you I would crate train him. You are the mother to the pup now and pups shouldn't be seperated from their moms until they are 8 weeks old I figure this should be about the same with you. Crate train at 8 weeks. Good Luck!! Sorry about the mom.

Early Socialization
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1547&articleid=854

Puppies need mental and physical stimulation. If they have littermates, they will stimulate each other when moving. Snuggle with each puppy as you wake it to eat and for a time after eating. They need the nurturing to thrive.

It is important for the orphan puppy to have interaction with members of the household at 5-6 weeks of age. Remember, it is still a baby and must be handled with care, but you should start to introduce the pup to noises, grooming procedures, new people, and pets. Early socialization and enabling the puppy to feel secure in its own environment will help prevent many problems from arising in the future.

Just love him! I've had pits for many years and they are VERY tough! He will be normal. Just socialize him, it's the most important thing you can do. And crate training?? No way!! How will he be able to protect you (when he gets big) if he's locked away in a crate? I can't sleep without my girls in bed.
Just give it a chance, plus it's a great opportunity for bonding.
