Does anyone have an idea of the going rate for wedding photography (basic packages) in NH? I'm getting quotes from $ 1600- 2400 and have no idea what is a "good" rate.

a good rate is subjective,

i dont know where NH is but I will say what i can if you are getting exactly the same package from the $1600 as you are the $2400, then you will proberly get what you pay for,, eg if they arent that good they dont value their work as much as someone whos good and can charge top dollar,

people who pay top dollar usually (get references or check out portfolio) get top images.

If you are getting those quotes from your area then that's what you need to go by. Wedding photography varies widely throughout the country, and from rural to urban areas. In all markets, you will have high end, middle, and low ball photographers, as well as new starts and weekend warriors.

The best thing is to meet with a few in your price range, look at their websites and their work, see how you get along with them. Ask to see a complete wedding, not just greatest hits, and ask for recent references. You can get a photographer who delivers prints and finished albums, usually at a premium price, or you can get your images on a CD or DVD only. That is becoming more and more prevalent as times change and people are accustomed to doing their own editing for coffee table books and such.

I deliver the corrected digital files and/or negatives and a set of proofs. Do make sure the photographer is skilled at Photoshop, and does at least the basic corrections. If you do files only, ask for recommendations for where to get them printed. There can be a world of difference in print quality from lab to lab, and your photographer should know where to take them to get good results.

In my area, $650 - $1200 will get you several hours of coverage and a few prints, with on-line ordering. $1500-$3000 will get coverage plus a premium album and a parent album. $500 will get basic coverage with a CD. YMMV. Good luck on your wedding.
