Why am I finding Navy rank made for the ARMY Combat Uniform on the internet? Are Sailors allowed to wear ACUs in certain situations? If so, how? and what?

Also, when are Navy personell able to wear the Marine MARPAT uniforms? Thank you.

If Navy Personnel are attached to an Army Unit, and they have authorization from a commander, they are authorized to wear the Army Combat Uniform, or ACU. It is the same for Airforce Personnel. Most Navy/Air Force Personnel with Multi-National Corps Iraq wear the Desert Combat Uniform (DCU) but some are authorized to wear the ACU. It kinda throws you off at first, but you get used to seeing it.

The Navy personnel that you see wearing the MARPAT uniforms are Navy Medical Corpsman that are assigned to a MAGTF (Marine Air Ground Task Force). They are out there saving the lives of the most elite fighting force in the world. That Navy Medical Corpsman does everything with the Marines that they are assigned to. They eat chow with them, participate along with them while doing PT, they even sleep in the same barracks as well. There are even some Navy Medical Corpsman that are authorized to wear the Marine Dress Blue Uniform; you can tell that they are Corpsman if the insignia on the uniform is Navy instead of Marine Corps. In order to qualify for this honor, they are required to pass the Marine Corps PFT (Physical Fitness Test). The other Sailors in question are not actually wearing the ACU (Army Camoflauge Uniform) cammies. That is supposed to be a new camouflauge uniform under development by the Navy. Some of the personnel that are wearing this uniform are apart of a unit known as the Brown Water Navy. These brave sailors are trained in conducting both riverine and ground combat operations. They usually man craft that are designed for conducting riverine combat operations. One of their other missions is to conduct patrols in order to prevent the enemy from making attempts at riverine combat. The training for anyone that intends to specialize in this rate take this course at a Marine Corps Base that is a part of the Atlantic Fleet Marine Force.

If assigned to an Army unit, Navy personnel are authorized to wear the ACU, same goes for the Air Force. The MARPAT is authorized for USN as well, this is usually reserved for Navy corpsman working directly with Marines. The inly difference is the corpsman will not have the Eagle Globe and Anchor on the left pocket of the blouse.

Aside from the clear-cut issues of FMF Corpsmen, Seabees, and SEALS who spend most of their time in BDU/ACU/MARPAT type uniforms, there are a large number of sailors and Naval Officers who are serving in cross-service support roles with the Army or USMC (Individual Augmentee Program).

Prior to the current War-on-Terrorism, I remember the instructors at FASOTRAGRUPAC's SERE School (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) wore Marine BDU's, but with the sleeves rolled in the ARMY fashion!

The US Navy is also in the process of developing an ACU style uniform to replace the dugarees. Check http://www.navy.mil for more information

Naval personnel are frequently assigned to the FMF (Fleet Marine Force) and when they do, they are required to wear Marine uniforms with Navy chevrons and insignias. Remember the Marine Corps is part of the Navy, so it's not unusual for the two services to share certain professions and expertise. All Marine Corps, Corpsmen, Chaplains, Lawyers, Doctors, and Dentists, are actually Navy personnel.

Can't tell you about army. But sometimes navy corpsmen and chaplains wear marine uniforms (but with their own ranks) if they're attached to a marine unit. Maybe it's the same with the army?
