By tearing down all the altars and other things that were dedicated to others gods and 'starry hosts'. The statues, the Asherah Poles, idols of many kinds. He killed the priests of those false gods and honored God with faithfulness.
After all that he did, God still pronounced judgment against Judah.
I think that his story shows how important it is to keep God number one in my life. How important it is to kill the thoughts that would take me away from God, to tear down all those desires for my own loves for this world, to quell the flesh if you will.

By killing off anyone who would not believe. Much like today.
