i have a cat that has no equillibrium, very wobbly, but it does get around ok, everything is normal, for the most part. but i cant ( for the life of me ) figure out why it will not use the litter box. he will actually do his business right beside it. the cat is cute, but im afraid that if it doesnt figure out how to use the litter box, then the cat will wind up diving for gold at the bottom of the river. ive been working with the animal for the last month, and yet still no sucess. can you help?

The main problem most likely is that he's too wobbly to feel safe stepping over the sides of the litter box because they're too high.

Either find a lower sided box, set something next to it to act as a large enough step that allows him to still keep his balance, or change the litter over into a large baking sheet to let him use the litter without problems.

He's handicapped. You wanting to kill him because of a handicap doesn't sound ethical at all. Why would that even be an option? The shelters do handle special needs animals.

Every cat is unique. If your cat is not an adult and he is learning how to walk, he might have some troubles trying to figure it out. On the other hand, usually they do their business in the litter box by nature. Although is really nasty try to move his business to the litter box so he can associate the odor and the place to where it should be. Be sure to clean very well the outside of the box so he won't associate the odor with the wrong place. Make sure that you clean the litter box daily because if they find it dirty they won't use it and do their thing somewhere else.

Good luck with your cat!

You should have the cat checked by a vet for the equilibrium problem first. Then try to resolve your issue with the litter box once that is taken care of. The cat may not like the type of litter you are using, or the box may not be "clean enough". if you have other cats you should have at least the same number of boxes plus 1. I would also advise you to solve the problem humanely if no luck with box training. Either find it a better home, shelter or have it humanely euthanized by a vet. Drowning any animal is cruel.

I had a kitten that pooped on his bed and slept on his litter box and he also was very very unstable walker. He walked sideways almost with his butt forward. I ended up getting rid of the cat because I really think it had some sort of brain damage. Every other cat I have owned knew to use the litter box naturally. I would show it the litter box, put it in there the first time and then after that they always went there on its own. I'd take it to the humane society honestly there is probably something wrong with it.

You definately need to take the cat to the vet. Have u ruled out the possibility that he is blind? He could (more possibly) have an ear infection. Does he have whiskers or did someone cut them off (maybe the whiskers are "diving for gold at the bottom of the river?" Take the cat to a vet!!

Did you bring him to the vet? If you can't bring him and if you are fed up with the little guy, do a google for a no kill cat shelter in your area. Somebody will take him. Good luck

take him to that vet as he may have an inner ear problem, as for the litter box...make sure he can climb in and out easily and that it is cleaned out every day

OK first of all you are insulting your cat and I count that as animal cruelty! Second If he's old it's normal, if he's young it's normal and no he's not retarded!
