I hate to admit my age here but I grew up in the late 50's and 60's! A square is essentially what a nerd was in the 80's and a geek is today.

That's a good question... why can't they say you are a cube, lol. Wait I got it... if they call you a square and you meet another square then together you become a cube? I have no clue why, lol!

Not cool. But since that was a common expression in the 50's or 60's I would say that it automatically applies to whoever said it.
