looking at my old photos I notice that images of my yougest neice display a lot of "red eye". However her older sister does not.
Do you think that some people have retinas that are more reflective of camera flash than others?.

I think it's got to do with how widely dilated the pupils are. That's why cameras with an anti red eye feature have a quick flash before the photo is taken. The first flash causes the pupils to contract and so reduce the red reflection. Perhaps your youngest niece's pupils dilate more than her older sister.

its not the eye color its the fact that people look directly into the camera, especially if you're indoors or its getting dark outside, your iris is dilated and the flash reflects off of the retina. To fix it try turning on more light when indoors, or better yet buy a separate flash and mount it on the camera, it reduces the red-eye by not being so close to the lens. an easy option is to turn on red eye reduction on your camera.

No... Red eye is from the flash going through your eye and the camera just capturing the moment the flash lights up the blood in the back of the eyes so it just depends on the shutter speed and angle of the person being photographed.

My guess would be YES as I have noticed the same thing. It could also have something to do with one subject looking straight at the camera more than another. That's just a guess also.

Yes, I think so. I have light blue eyes and I will have red eye in almost every picture. Thank goodness for photoshop these days!
