Ive had it for as long as I can remember (10yrs or so), could it be from biting my nails? It does get sore sometimes as the skin splits and the cuticles also come away from the nail, its maily on my thumbs and pointer finger.
Could it also be a vitamin deficency? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

First of all, biting your nails will help aggrivate any condition your finger nail area has. Finger nails are protectors for the tips of our fingers and you need to keep them healthy. I suggest you find another pass time to do and let them grow properly. Also, pealing skin is usually from one of two things: over grown cuticles or chapped dry cuticles. Your cuticles will automatically grow out with your finger nails since they are attached at the base of them. You need to do a good manicure at least once a week to keep your cuticles pushed back. You can find a cuticle softening gel at most stores in the nail polish section. You can also find special cuitcal cutters that will trim the excess cutical off after you groom them back. Be sure to be careful with them as they are sharp. Also, keep a good hand cream around and after you have your hands in water, especially hot or soapy or clorinated, cream your hands giving attention to the cutical area around your nails. That should help take care of the problem. Good luck on your beautiful hands.

I have the same problem and i too can remember it being like that for a long time, but i dont bit my nails so maybe thats not the connection, My hands dont really get sweaty they are generally pretty dry so i've always put it down to having dry hands. maybe try to get a good moisturiser for them and then the skin will be more flexible and soft and might not tear, break or crack so much, bitting your nails could be what dries them out too, for example when you lick your lips to much they dry out so maybe it s the same kind of thing.

It's because you have dry skin. Use a moisturizer, especially right before bed. I like olive oil for my cuticles, rub some around the nail with a Q-tip before bed

I have the exact same thing. YES, I was told it's because I used to bite my nails. I don't know about the vitamin defiiciency connection - sorry.

My cousin had that problem. Her Dermatologist gave her something to put on it. I don't know what it was though.
