Here it is, for two Formula 1 races out of every single season (which would be chosen at random) all the drivers are forced to drive for a different team (which would also be chosen at random like champions league draws) but the drivers would have to stay together, for example Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso would have to drive for the same team but the team would not be McClaren. I know that this idea would be virtually impossible due to driver insurance policies etc but that would be great thing to look forward to in a formula 1 season.

With the way the sponsorship packages are set up that would never work. Also teams are set up around the driver so it wouldn't work because of that factor as well. Interesting idea though.

maybe a one time race at the end of the season, the last thing Ferrari wants is for a mclaren driver to know how their current car performs, not to mention how pissed mclaren would be when their drivers pass their team in the competition's car

i still say the best change to f1 would be to strip off all the barge boards and winglets, and cut the front and rear wing dimensions in half, and let the teams compensate for this with true slick tires wider wheel bases and lower ride heights,
because mechanical grip doesn't wash away when you get close enough to make a pass like aero grip does

even better change whatever the final placings are for a race the next race they are reversed so whoever comes last is on pole and the previous winner is last on the grid. Saturday qualy stays the same but instead of deciding placings you get the points for the team championship.and even better get rid of all electronics and go back to manual gearbox'swhere a driver had a clutch and a proper gearlever where he could miss a gear and get over taken when he makes a misstake

i would say why not make a rule that's like in football. drivers are like the teams in a league. if they do not perform well in a race, they are dropped from a good team to a less established team, like a football team being relegated to the second-best league. that way, all drivers can really prove their talents

This is a highly competitive sport with massive sponsorship and great competition between teams. Your idea would work against each teams policy and therefore would be a non starter, even from the pits.

What your forgeting is Formula 1 is a team sport it's the constructor's trophy that the teams want first and although your idea is novel the teams would never agree to it.

That's a stupid idea. What's next, a Chinese Fire Drill every race? Or maybe, make all the tracks figure-8. And each team has to chain their two cars together.

no way, F1 is about the team, not just the driver. Plus you can't have "random" anything in F1 without fans crying that is was fixed

Yes that would be a good idea it would show the drivers in crap teams like spyker if they are really crap or not. jenson should be driving for a top team anyway.

interesting thought, mate.

I admit, having Alonso, or Kimi or the other really good (or just good-earning?) drivers in the worst cars would be fun. you'll then see who's really good, and who only got good material.

but as you said - the possibility to see that is nearly null.
what a pity!
