More curious about friendships, than dating a coworker

Workplace friendships are great, as long as you have other interests other then work. If all you ever discuss is work, then this increases "job stress". By having other interests, you can have a friend, but get away from the job.

It is certainly not best to always separate your work and your personal lives.

In sales, which accounts for approximately 1 out of every 10 working adults the business generally goes to the people who know the sales people well.

There is a saying that more big deals go down over the golf course than in corporate board rooms and it is completely true.

The people who are taking the business outside of work and allocating some time for half business half pleasure activities are the ones getting rich. Im talking about taking prospective clients out for breakfast and things like that.

As far as the original question goes, I cant think of any good reason to keep them completely separate unless you are the kind of person who cant draw boundaries for yourself.

It is best to keep your work and private lives separate so that the people you work with do not know personal problems, health issues, family issues, etc. Inevitably, the more they know, the more they judge you and the way you conduct your life. It also gives people the opportunity to gossip about you, which can be very damaging.
By keeping it separate, they judge only your work and attitude, not things that are none of their business. I think the less people know in the workplace, the better off you are. There are enough rumors and tales told in office settings, anyway!!!

Because, no matter if male or female you never want to be introduced to your former work-friends as their new boss and look around and see 17 people you have had sex with. That and the fact they know enough about you to get you arrested, audited by the IRS or divorced by your spouse and with their looks of contempt because you betrayed them to join the other side, you will really wish you had listened to this advice. Then again, the too friendly don't get promoted..

Work pays the bills generated by your private life. Never get them mixed up, or your work will take over.
