Try turning the shower on, full blast really hot, and sit in the bathroom for a while and breathe the vapor, you can also try some hot tea, or if you can make it to the store, expectorant, it comes in the form of a cough syrup and can aslo be found in some cold and flu pills, that stuff is designed to get rid of phlegm. If you are having trouble breathing and it won't go away, call your doctor tomorrow, it may be something like bronchitis or pneumonia.

there are some basic over the counter solutions to this very annoying problem to say the least, this I can empathise with as a suffering asthmatic. So back to the question at hand as i said Benadryl is an effective cough syrup in regards to loosening the phlegm you have trapped on your chest but as a compliment to this medicine a Ventolin inhaler will open your breathing passages so the syrup loosens it and the Ventolin opens your airways to release the phlegm loosened from the Benadryl cough syrup. As i said earlier these medications are obtainable over the counter and are most effective when used in combination,I wish you all the best and hope that I am able to bring some relief to your frustrating predicament....................

Honestly, that depends on what the reason is for the phlem. If you are a smoker, then you most likely will not get rid of it unless you quit smoking and then it will take a long time for your lungs to clear up. If you work in areas that you breathe in items that are foreign to your lungs, you may not get any relef either. My mother died from Pulminary Fibrosis. It was caused because she did apholestry for years and would never wear a mask or get proper airation in her work room. She breathes in the fabric fibers for years and they caused scar tissue to build up in her lungs until she died from it. Black lung is a similar situation but is caused from working in the coal mines without a proper breathing mechism. Your lungs were designed to breathe only one thing: Oxygen. Anything else they breathe is foreign. I would suggest you start by going to your doctor to make sure what you have isn't serious. It may just be a viral infection that needs a DM caugh syrup to help bring it out of the lungs. If it is more than that, he can schedule you to see a lung specialist. What ever it is, take care of yourself because your lungs need to last your entire life and if you lose your ability to breath, you will not be living on this earth any longer. Good luck.

Put your fingers together and gently cup your hand, bend it, then hit all over your chest. This is called cupping, it's the same thing you do to burp a baby. If there's anyone to help you, have them do the same to your back, this will help loosen any phlegm that needs to come out. Don't do it hard, don't slap, just enough to feel it.
