It's normal to want things.
It's normal for parents to want their children to have it good.
So the two just go hand in hand.

I'm not one to blame society, but I think it is partly to blame.
You see it on TV, in books, internet, ect.
It's cool to be rebelious. Especially against your parents.
Some kids just take it too far.
It's hard to be a kid, and it's harder to be a parent.
Most children don't realise this. They can't see past their own problems and assume their parents don't have any because they don't hear about them. [and i think its healthier that they don't.]
I mean we watch television shows where a $360 outfit is considered 'on a budget'. &Sweet Sixteen? PLEASE. That show makes me SOO mad.
But I'm not sure we should blame just one person, such as Paris or Nicole. But I do think if famous people were to donate to more charities, and care about more, instead of buying a $2600 handbag, that would influence youth to do the same..

Anyways.
I'm thirteen, and that's my point of view on the subject.

I asked a similar question and got barraged with hateful responses saying I was just angry. I agree with you - I can't stand spoiled rotten kids who take everything they have (possessions as well as people) for granted. Luckily not ALL teenagers are this way but alot of them are and it seems to get worse with each generation. I stopped watching Mtv because, for one, they don't really play music anymore and because the "reality" shows on there make me SICK. There is one called "Super Sweet 16" which is basically whiney 16 year old girls being complete spoiled b*tches to their parents even as they spend THOUSANDS of dollars on them for a super sweet 16 b'day party. Most end up getting new cars as well yet nothing makes them happy. I know that show is blown out of proportion and most 16 year olds don't have those luxuries. But the attitudes just seem to be getting worse and worse. It actually makes me very scared to have children because I don't want to have a little sh*t for a child. I can only hope that I am able to raise a child who is loving, grateful, and kind.

Oh - the reason they're like that these days? Too many spineless parents who care more about being LIKED than doing what's best for their children. Pathetic. And too many parents who give "time outs" when a good butt whipping is what is actually needed.

If I was as fortunate as the other kids that get abercrombie and fitch, I would work my butt off. How can somebody have all that, and treat their parents like ****?! I don't even get stuff like that, I'm the hand-me-down cousin, and I still have to do chores everyday. I swear to god... If I was that ****** rich I would never get that snobby. Paris Hilton is a spoiled *****, and she doesn't deserve to be famous because she isn't even good at anything, and she is too thin and has a freaky eye that scares small children.

Its definatly the parent's fault!!! Some parents let their kids run all over them! Its sad, but true! Especially in this day and age! There are no good role models out there! At least they are not the ones we see plastered all over the tv and magazines! All we hear about is Hilton, Spears, and Lohan! DUI, Cocaine, Fighting!

Nobody wants to read about the celebrities out there w/ a head on their shoulders, doing positive things! Thats America for ya!!!!!

Its called kids being spoiled by the parents. This is not anything new this has been going on since long ago. Parents who are busy or have other things to do than rather putting up with their kids, they just get them stuff to shut them up and be queit for a little while. Its a never ending circle people spoil their kids, kids wants everthing once the do get it they either say it sucks or get bored with it and cry for something else. Really kids just need a good azz woopen. Thats all thier is to it sometimes tuff love is the best to put up with bratty kids.

(from a 15 year old) The world is a different place than it used to be. Kids/teens see the world way to fast, most teens really don't have a grasp on how hard their parents work just to make them a little happier, and depending on how old they are don't understand the TRUE value of a dollar(J.O.B is what they need). They no nothing of bills, how much they cost you as parents, hard earned money is spent easily in the hands of teens with so many WANTS not needs. Mainly cause they do nothing for the money they don't think twice about spending it. As for treating him like dirt you need to TELL her how she treats him! that don't work, see how she likes to be treated that way.(I know teens cause I am one but I've grown fast)

The problem is lack of parenting. You can't blame people the kids have never even met - like Paris and Nicole. It's not Paris and Nicole's job to raise other people's kids, it's their parents. So my opinion is that the fault lies only with the parents. If their parents haven't taught them any better then the parents will pay for it.

first of all neither you nor your husband should be giving them hollister, abercrombie&fitch and cell phones and nose piercing. Why on earth does daddy buy her everything? You both spoiled your child then you want to know why the attitude.

Kids, because they are in the blogs, forums, etc. hear that loyalty and respect has to be earned. That's where they are getting their info. It could be there too where other kids are saying how they treat their parents, friends, relatives, etc. and so they follow suit from their peers thoughts.

So is daddy going to continue to accept this attitude or are you both going to sit down and have a talk with your child? or are you just going to willingly pay for her wedding, send her to college, buy her a car, maybe even pay for her child out of wedlock, pay for her apartment and watch her go bankrupt?. Isn't she old enough to communicate with?

How about, what's with parents these days?! We don't work our butts off so we can get the latest "thang." We get what we can afford. It's called living below your means and teaching respect. Those things are on the endangered species list somewhere. The 2 celebrities mentioned aren't any kind of role model. The media is cramming them down our throat. Why?!

You should re-phrase your question to "What's with parents these days?" I think that parents need to pull back with the freebies. Kids need to earn their way. Be honest, if you were lavished with these things you'd take them too. Anyone would. We would probably be more appreciative. To bring it to perspective for me I look at what TV has to offer. 30 years ago in rural areas, you were lucky to get 5 or 6 channels. Now with cable and satellite, we take for granted the 200 or 300 stations and still complain that there is nothing on.
