My boyfriend and I have been working out together since January, and a huge amount of cardio has gotten me to drop 25+ lbs. Just recently, he told me that it was time to move from the treadmill to outdoors, and that is going well. I run just over 2 miles, 3 times a week. One or two hours before i run, i have a bowl of All Bran cereal with milk. Should i eat after i run? Normally, i don't feel like it. I do not want to gain weight, and nor am i allowed to lose any more. If i should eat after i run, what should it be, and how much of it?
Thanks

Thank you for all the answers. Honestly, the last thing i want to do after i run is eat, so i'm glad that i shouldn't!
By the way, when i run, i burn off the whole bowl of all-bran, and because i eat it so far before running, the milk does not do any damage. However, i once went for a run after i ate a milk product, and it was horrifying, dairy is indeed a runners enemy.

pat, i said that i did not want to put on weight, and if i had a protein shake and/or a bar, eventually i would pack some pounds, also, if i just ate whatever's in the fridge, that may also happen too.

Have some water or an energy drink to replenish the fluids in your body. But don't feel compelled to eat right away. Eat when you are hungry. Let your body do the talking. As for what you eat, the normal foods will work fine after a workout.
You obviously are doing great -- keep up the good work.

If you seriously run, don't eat for at least two hours before running. The Feds websites state that one needs to walk at least 4 miles a day to maintain weight; 5 miles to loose weight, but did not give how much for running.
Immediately after running, don't eat anything; wait several minutes before drinking water even. If you are gasping from exercising, wait until that is over before putting anything into your mouth to avoid choking. Walk around to cool off slowly; then sip a bit, then you can eat bananas, apples, raisins, nuts, whatever health-type food you like, but not much.
When I was young, I ran the mile under 4 minutes; now I can only walk!

Eat pasta the day before. Drink plenty of water a few days before. You do not want to eat too much before that long race. Make sure you eat that day, but not too much right before the race. I usually have an apple and a granola bar and some water before my 2 mile.

eat carbs after u run because it gives u energy and u'll do better wen u run if u eat carbs. i mean pasta not pizza becuz dairy is bad for runners. and then stay hydrated so drink lots and lots of water and energy bars.

Bananas, and wait a little while after you run to eat.
Also, never drink milk before you run.
You will get nastily sick

bananas are good...
also, just a little tip, after you run, try hopping onto a low resistance bike for 10-15 minutes to relieve soreness later....
